It's amazing how quickly the horses explode into motion. I tap the horse's flank with my foot, and we follow Lila, who's already taken off. I hear Alaster and Amithiyst, and feel relief at that. They're not lost. As we grow further and further from our stopping place, my mind begins to wander.
'What did Spirit mean by our "Challenge?" Is it some horseback riding expedition?' I wonder.
For some reason, I get the feeling that's not it. These are the War Hawks. Not the Peace-and-Happiness Hawks. We might die out there, just like my mother. This world is strange and dangerous. Being a rebel in a worldwide war isn't the safest path, either.
We dodge fallen trees and leap streams until the sun is climbing up higher into the sky.
"We should head back!" Alaster suggests. The others agree, so I nod. We turn around and gallop back.
When we return, we find we were right. The lat few groups are trotting back. Spirit does a quick head-count, and announces we have to go to data retrieval now.
I lead my horse bback to its stable. A wooden sign over the door reads "Stormy."
"See ya, Stormy." I say quietly after taking off her saddle and bridle.
I join Lila, Alaster, and Amithiyst. Kato, J. R., Avian, and a dark-skinned, black-haired, gold-eyed boy join us. The gold-eyed boy introduces himself as Nox.
Our group follows Spirit and Aspen to data retrieval.

When we reach the place, Spirit and Aspen tell us this is where they leave. They bid us good luck and walk off.
We wait in the marble hall, in front of the wooden door, until I get the courage to open the door.
Inside, computers on tables line both walls.
"Have a seat." A hoarse voice says. An elderly woman with small spectacles, her gray hair in a tight bun, and deep lines in her face steps out.
I grab a seat between J. R. and Kato, then turn on the computer.
"I am Ms. Omlo. Some questions are on the computer screen. Answer the first page and stop. Then you may go to lunch." Ms. Omlo says.
I turn to the questions.
"Name?" The question is in a formal font.
"Terrin Rinzer." I type in answer.
"Ven and Swarria Rinzer."
"Skylark and Ryde Rinzer."
"Ability to use weapons?"
"Able to swim?"
"END OF PAGE ONE" is printed clearly after that question. I click the "Enter" button, and sit back and stretch, looking around to see a few others are finished. After a while, everyone has finished.
"Everyone's done, I see. Okay, you can go." Ms. Omlo says. She looks at me through narrowed eyes. I've already been identified as a troublemaker. Adults have a sixth sense to detect what kind of person a kid is.
I stand and walk out the door. J. R., Avian, and Kato join me. We head to lunch together. The three of them are talking about the horseback ride and the data retrieval, but I don't speak. My mind is preoccupied.
Any of these three could die. Any kid in this twisted world could be killed in someone else's war.
