Toshia Shaw is a poet, and writer hailing from Memphis, Tennessee. She currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband and two children. She holds a Bachelors degree in Human Services and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Management. She is on the Executive Board of the Nevada Youth Alliance and she is the Executive Director of Purple Wings Organization; a non-profit directed at deterring at-risk young ladies from the sex industry of Las Vegas, Nevada. When Toshia isn't writing she loves spending time with her family and lending her voice to her natural hair online blog, On the Road to Queendom.

Felicia, Dawn, and Shauna are three friends that have vowed to not let anything get between them as they go thru life in Las Vegas. However, none of them counted on the many obstacles that will affect this friendship. They have to deal with lies, drugs, prostitution, domestic abuse, near death experiences, and obsession. They gamble the highest stakes possible; their lives. Who will end up on top and who will have to leave Sin City after losing it all? I have to give this book a five!

I may be biased because I love a great story and I love Vegas. The energy, the brights lights, the noise. But I've never lived there and High Stakes gave me an insight of Vegas that I knew lied under the surface but would have never seen. There are issues of friendship, loyalty, and trying to make a way out of a bad situation. We can all relate to those themes. Toshia Shaw carefully weaves the three heroines' stories in a way that isn't rushed and allows you to get a true sense of each character

A fun and fabulous read to indulge in over and over again!

My hat goes off to Toshia Shaw. High Stakes turned out to be a page turning guilty pleasure I could see myself induldging in over and over again. I am the type of reader who needs to be grabbed by a story quickly or I will be quick to put the book down and the story of these three "best friends" is told in such a way that less then ten pages in I found myself lost in the lives of Felicia and Shauna wanting to know more, more, more. I don't want to wait chapters upon chapters to get into the good stuff and with this book the waiting game is not one you have to play. While you are being introduced to each character you are also being pulled into their world full of drama, struggle, dreams and love. Somehow Toshia Shaw managed to tell her tale of these "best friends" in Sin City through the eyes and mind of each character individually and as a whole which allowed me to get lost in each characters mind and heart and become attached to each individually. I found High Stakes to be a FUN and fabulous read and I do hope the story of these characters continue....

The Risk of Losing It All

Shauna, Felicia, and Dawn's only means of fast money is dropping it like it's hot at the strip club to keep up with the Joneses, indulge in the latest fashion, and in Dawn's case to pay her way through school. The ladies know it's time to give up the pole and move on to a better lifestyle they can benefit from, but they can't seem to let go. Dawn's friendship with Shauna and Felicia goes down the drain when she retires her stilettos and gets involved with her new beau. As the ladies' relationship is steadily falling apart, each of them has her own personal dilemma to deal with and keep in tact. The question is: will they let their friendship take a backseat while dealing with what matters most?

"High Stakes" is a well written novel coming from a new face. The issues of greed, friendship and selfishness are a few of the key factors Ms. Shaw presented in this novel. There were some sad moments as well as some funny moments. There were also moments where I wanted to holler and scream at the characters. I was hooked from the very beginning. The read was well worth it. Good job, Toshia.

Loved it!

High Stakes is an excellent read for anyone who loves the drama. This book is definitely a page turner. You are constantly left wondering what will happen next and not wanting to put the book down. I was immediately drawn into the story and the characters lives. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is watching Shauna and Felicia evolve throughout the story. This tale of three best friends trying to make their own way in the infamous Las Vegas gives you a realistic view of that world. The happy ending is an added bonus. Can't wait for the next book from Toshia Shaw!
