A whirlwind was nearby, that God had prepared to sweep him off the earth. Elijah held his mantel (cloak) over water, while he was walking, to clear the water away to show a path beneath of dry rock, while he and Elisha were crossing the Jordan river on a mission to help and pray for people. Elijah was a high priest. Elisha was his understudy, preparing to walk in his footsteps. The images are colorful and beautiful, and the words rhyme like a song.
