Overview

New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell spins a masterful tale of glory, honor and passion in this sweeping adventure of a proud woman who refuses to believe in love -- and the fiery Scotsman determined to change her mind...

Liam Cameron is certain he’s died and gone to heaven when he opens his eyes to the angel before him. But the pain that wracks his body proves he is still earth-bound. Keira Murray MacKail saved Liam's life -- and he has some enticing ways he would like to thank her. Soon, lust gives way to a feeling much more profound for a woman whose battles he wants to fight...though he fears the most difficult one will be for her heart...

Keira quickly learns that Liam has danger chasing him. As her healing kindness frees him to tell his tale, she confides the trouble that plagues her: she is a laird’s widow now responsible for saving a small village pillaged by cruel invaders. But even as Liam makes the crusade to reclaim her lands his own, he will face a far greater challenge to win her trust -- and her love -- for all time...

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Unlike Howell's earlier historical romances set in the Scottish Highlands (Highland Bride, etc.), this protracted tale contains much more talk than action. While hiding out at a monastery, troubled widow and healer Keira Murray nurses back to health handsome Liam Cameron, whom she found beaten and left for dead. Despite the immediate attraction between the two, Keira is wary of Liam's good intentions. Even after he decides to help her reclaim her estate, which was invaded by the bloodthirsty Rauf Moubray, Keira remains doubtful of his affection. While the protagonists' various clansmen, who have joined their ranks, emphasize repeatedly how better off the world would be without the villain, Liam prepares at tedious length for the confrontation with Rauf. But the actual battle is brief and anticlimactic, nothing like the taut conflicts that fueled Howell's previous Highland adventures likewise set in the 15th century. The passion between Liam and Keira will warm readers to their toes, however, and many will appreciate the chance to revisit the affable and honorable Murray and Cameron clans. (Dec.) fine Highland historical tale

In 1475 Scotland, Kiera Murray MacKail is forced to flee her home when Castle Ardgleann is overtaken by Ralf Mouwbray, who killed her spouse. She manages to reach a nearby monastery where her cousin Brother Matthew tends a wounded warrior Liam Cameron. As a gifted healer Kiera takes over caring for the patient. --- When he recovers, Liam, in gratitude, agrees to escort Keira to his home where he is bound anyway. However, traveling without a chaperon for weeks, their families demand the couple wed. Liam accepts his fate having expected it, but Keira is reluctant as she knows he will discover her secret on their wedding night she remains a virgin though a widow. As they mount a counter assault to regain Ardgeleann, they both quietly realize they love their spouse, but neither wants to be the first to say so out of fear of rejection. --- Hannah ¿Highland¿ Howell provides a strong fifteenth century Scottish romance that her fans will enjoy while rooting for the lead couple to make it together and to defeat the enemy that has taken over her castle. Readers will wonder why she is a married virgin as Ms. Howell once again entertains her audience with a fine Highland historical tale. --- Harriet Klausner

    Midnite

Loved the book..... but dont like the book cover. I really have enjoyed all her books, but it would be nice if the covers reflected the story. (EX: main character has shoulderlength red hair & the cove has great shot of abs but the man has short dark hair) Its not a big thing except for visual buyers like me.

Why does every chapter ends with the choice to back to the content table? It couses a break in the glow of the story
