Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Bestselling author Hannah Howell laid claim to the romantic realm of heather and plaid with Highland Knight and Highland Vow. Here she returns to the ruggedly romantic Highlands of Scotland with a tale of a noblewoman and a knight who start as foes and end as lovers. Embroiled unwillingly in a plot to overthrow King James II by her Scottish uncle, Contessa Tess Delgado takes her life into her hands to free Sir Revan Halyard, a loyalist knight, from her guardian's dungeon. When Revan kidnaps her during his escape, however, he saves her in return -- for Tess's uncle has more than treason on his mind. He'd love to end his willful niece's life and claim her vast inheritance. Set in a time of countless dangers, intrigue, and treachery, in a land both hostile and breathtakingly beautiful, Highland Hearts tells a story of bold risks taken for king, for country, and for love.
Publishers Weekly
Following the exploits of a proud knight and a spirited young heiress, this fast-paced Highland adventure, the second in Howell's newest trilogy (after Highland Knight), is a bracing blend of high suspense and sizzling romance. When Contessa Delgado releases Sir Revan Halyard from her guardian uncle's dungeon, he demonstrates his gratitude by taking her hostage. Ironically, she finds she's safer in Revan's company than in Uncle Thurkettle's keep; her uncle, after all, planned to kill her so that he and his avaricious daughter could control the lands and fortune Tess inherited after her parents died. While hiding out in a remote cave, Tess learns that Revan is a spy for the crown and that he suspects her uncle of consorting with a clan plotting to overthrow King James II. A strong romantic bond builds between Tess and Revan as they attempt to dispatch the traitors but, in the end, her inheritance proves to be their biggest stumbling block. Revan, a younger son short on land but long on pride, refuses to marry Tess until he has property of his own, and it's up to Tess and her amiable clansmen to convince him that marrying into money for love is not a crime. Howell's deft use of period dialogue lends the book a tangible sense of time and place, and her protagonists' spirited interactions will swiftly endear them to readers. (Feb.) HIGHLAND SEDUCTION

"Why dinna ye sit by the fire, and I will prepare us a meal," Revan said.

"I am sitting by the fire."

The movement of her lips against the side of his neck was one time too many. Had he really felt her tongue briefly, tentatively, stroke his skin? Every desire he had tried to control during their sojourn in the cave was running wild.

"Dinna do it, Revan," he muttered to himself even as he smoothed his hand over her thick, unbound hair.

Leaning back just a little, Tess stared up at him. "Dinna do what?"

His eyes were a stormy gray, and the look they held stirred her blood as much as his hands. She placed her hands on his chest, lightly caressing its smooth, taut breadth. Beneath her hand she could feel the quickening of his heartbeat. He wanted her. It was a heady realization.

"Kiss you," he whispered, his gaze falling to her full mouth. "Dinna kiss you."

Despite her innocence, she knew he was hungering for far more than a kiss. If they did kiss, it would not stop there. She told herself what she was thinking was sinful. It was not right. It was not wise. It was simply asking for trouble and heartbreak.

But none of that mattered.

She slowly ran her tongue over her lips and heard him inhale sharply. Seeing how she could affect him helped make her decision. It might be only passion, at least on his part, but instinct told her she would find none to equal it. She would take whatever was offered, take it now, and worry about the future later....

    Exciting historical Scottish romance

In 1455 Scotland Fergus Thurkettle incarcerates Sir Revan Halyard who is investigating a plot to overthrow King James. His jailer¿s niece Contessa Tess Delgado frees the imprisoned Revan, but before he escapes Fergus arrives. Realizing that Fergus will kill even his own blood, Revan abducts Tess for her own safety.
Revan and Tess travel to the King to warn him of the treachery, but Fergus and his seditious comrades pursue. As the intrepid duo journeys closer to their goal, they fall in love. However, though cherished, love must remain on hold for first they must survive the traitors chasing after them and second inform His Highness that perfidy is rampant among some of the nobles.
Fans of historical Scottish romances will fully enjoy this reprint of a Hannah Howell tale written under the name of Sandra Dustin. Though almost a decade old, the tale retains a freshness in spite of remaining inside sub-genre plot lines. The key to the crisp story line is the lead couple whose courage and love shine throughout the novel. Readers will enjoy this story and want to read Ms. Howell¿s delightful Highland trilogy (note that this novel is not part of that miniseries).
Harriet Klausner

Be aware - this is a reissue.

At the end of Hannah Howell's 'Highland Knight', there was an introduction to her 'newest novel'. While reading the excerpt, I had a case of deja-vu. I knew the characters, the story line, etc. So I did some research, and found that this is a reissue of a book Hannah Howell published in 1995 under the pseudoname Sandra Dustin, but the same title. I don't know if any enhancements have been made to the writing, but I don't want people to buy this book believing it's new and then find out after the fact they've read it before. I will say that I did enjoy the original Highland Hearts novel, and that the writing, character interaction, and fast moving storyline are classic Hannah Howell.

HIGHLAND HEARTS by Hannah Howell is an exciting Medieval Scottis

HIGHLAND HEARTS by Hannah Howell is an exciting Medieval Scottish Historical Romance set in 1455 Scotland.

*"This book was previously published under the pseudonym Sandra Dustin"*

*Re-issue: "First Zebra Books Mass-Market Paperback Printing: February 2002"*

This is a fast paced, action packed story of a noblewoman, Contessa Tess Delgado and her Knight in shining armor, Sir Revan Halyard. Filled with treachery, treason, desire, passion, betrayal, secrets, danger and love. Another hit from this author, although, a re-release, I absolutely loved it. I love Scottish romances and "Highland Hearts" will steal your heart as Tess and Revan risk everything for love, country and their King. Well written with plenty of passion and danger. A must read! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

    Beautiful!

I thought this was a wondeful story.Tessa loved her man enough to let him go rather than have him hate her in the end because of her wealth, but of course, true love wins out. This book is very recommended.

    Very exciting, tender love story.

The first book I read of Hannah Howell's was 'His Bonnie Bride,' that book was terrible!! It was very trashy and I skipped to the end just so I wouldn't feel I totally wasted my money on the book. I was therefore apprehensive about the other book of hers I had purchased (this one). I have to say, I was pleasantly suprised. This book was not only good, it was exciting and filled will adventure. Revan was soooo sweet to Tess. He protected her and cherished her. Tess was also really neat. She had a quick tongue but was also sweet. I loved how she wanted to look pretty for Revan whenever she got the chance. In short, if you do buy this book, you won't be disapointed. It is a sweet, adventurous love story that will leave you feeling happy you took the time to read it. Revan and Tess were such a cute couple!
