Meet the Author

With a passion for historical romance, history in general, and anything Celtic, B.J. always has an exciting work in progress. Each story offers a blend of romance, adventure, suspense, and, where appropriate, a dab of comic relief. Carefully researched historical facts are woven into each manuscript, providing a backdrop from which steamy romance, gripping plots, and vivid characters—dashing alpha heroes and resourceful, beguiling heroines you can’t help but admire—spring to life. A member of RWA, World Romance Writers, Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, and Savvy Authors, B.J. also writes contemporary, paranormal, time travel, and romantic suspense.

C.S. Lewis first captivated B. J.’s imagination in the fourth grade, and her desire to write sprang from there. Following a career in nursing and child and youth work, B.J. married her knight-in-shining-armor, and he whisked her away to his castle by the sea. In reality, they share their century-old home in a small Canadian town on the shore of Lake Erie with three dogs and a cat. When she is not working at her childcare job, on her small business, or writing, you will find her reading, camping, or antique hunting.

A MUST for your NOOK library

The debut novel of BJ Scott will captivate you the moment Cailin Macmillan, the feisty beauty with a fiery Jane Eyre-like temperament, enchants Connor Fraser, a strong-willed masculine Scottish highlander duty bound to keep her safe. This book was an emotional roller coaster ride that I never wanted to stop. I laughed, gasped, frowned, sighed and cried. This novel is filled with romance, secrets, sensuality, captivating dialogue, and a great villain to keep every character on their toes. Scott is a brilliant writer. The geographical descriptions and aesthetical features of this period piece made it a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this debut novel to all fans of historical romance. They won¿t be disappointed. HIGHLAND LEGACY will prove why Scott's work is so incredibly irresistible---- her dynamic characters jump off the page, and her attention to historical details is so rich you feel you've stepped back in time. I LOVED this endearing, passionate love story and I know readers will yearn for her next brilliantly set up installment. (To tell the truth, I¿m personally rooting for it to feature Bryce and Fallon. That¿s a love story that will pack a punch!)

    Fantastic Story!

Highland Legacy By: B. J. Scott Cailin Macmillan is appalled to learn her father has arranged for her to marry a Laird thrice her age. Determined to marry for love or not at all, she flees the keep, only to be accosted by brutal English soldiers intent on raping her. Highland patriot, Connor Fraser, comes to her defense, and escorts her back to the castle. However, upon hearing that she is being sought for the murder of the soldier Connor killed, Cailin leaves her lifelong home dressed as a lad. She follows Connor and his brothers who carry a missive to Robert the Bruce, self-proclaimed King of Scotland. It is with the Bruce that Cailin hopes to seek refuge from her would-be captors. Connor has vowed revenge for the death of his family, and has no time or inclination to marry. Nevertheless, in order to keep Cailin safe, he declares her his wife, with the intention of an annulment when they reach their destination. With a vindictive English lord on Cailin¿s trail to bring her to England for murder, Connor is torn between his steadfast dedication to king and country, his desire for Cailin, and his need to protect her from the hated English. Highland Legacy is a book that is impossible to put down. The wealth of intrigue, horror, and historical accuracy makes for a riveting tale. The characters are well developed, the plot intricate. Ms. Scott has written a tense and spellbinding debut novel. This book is without a doubt, one of the finer stories of Medieval Scotland I¿ve ever read. Connor Fraser and Cailin Macmillian will capture your heart. Their passion, strength and honor will remain with you long after you¿ve read the last page of their remarkable story. Don¿t miss out on this one.

Cailin lived while her twin brother and mother died in childbirt

Cailin lived while her twin brother and mother died in childbirth–and her father never forgave her for it. After all the horrible treatment she suffers at the hands of her father, he still cannot break her spirit or make her stop dreaming of finding true love, which is the only thing she’ll marry for. So when her father chooses to arrange a marriage for her to a much older man to increase his standing, Cailin runs away and finds fast trouble. She also finds the man she’s been waiting for, Conner Fraser.

Conner has sworn his life to the cause and to his beloved country of Scotland. He doesn’t have time for a wife or children. But when he rescues the beautiful, strong-willed Cailin, will he change his mind about love?

Highland Legacy is a fast-paced, action-packed Historical Romance about love, war, and letting go of the past. B.J. Scott does an excellent job of keeping you holding on to the edge of your seat while rooting for these marvelously developed characters. This is a Highlander story you must check out!

    A fun read!

This book reminded me of some of the very first romance novels I ever read. In terms of style, content and setting, it¿s a lot like Julie Garwood¿s Highlander books, and I enjoyed it just as much.

Set in the time of William Wallace, Sir Simon Fraser, and Robert the Bruce (who all make appearances), this is a story of larger than life heroes and the women who love them. Connor Fraser is a man committed to his cause who doesn¿t want the responsibility of having a woman and children of his own; Cailin Macmillian is a fiery woman who craves the love and affection she never got from her domineering, disappointed father.

This was a fun book to read for a girl who cut her teeth on those Scottish historicals way back when. I always did love me a man in a kilt. And apparently, I still do!

Review originally posted at Romancing the Book

I think in another life I lived in medieval times. I am so drawn to these types of books that I can’t seem to get enough of them. While in Ireland touring the castles, I fantasized about all the characters I read about real and make believe (although to me they are real) living in said castles. I could see everything about them. So once again I am drawn to the pure title of a book.

I wasn’t disappointed. Robert the Bruce a big part of medieval times always adds the true element making any story so much more believable. From the beginning of Ms. Scott’s tale with the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts…Hot…Hot…Hot you will find that your heart is captured by the sheer romance that only they can bring to a story (Sean Connery…enough said).

Caitlin MacMillan spirited and smart, finds herself surrounded by the darkness of life that only greedy parent can bring who knows not what love is. Her father has betrothed her to a just as dark man who is three times her age. Although I would like to think that somewhere it can be a possibility it just isn’t working her and right fully so. She needs love, light, life. Not the horrors, hardships, danger that is her life and how she is treated by her father and soon to be betrothed.

In walks Conner Fraser. Highland warrior to rescue her from the “dark” life she has now. Can we say…Sexy as hell, wildly living life on the edge? He has vowed that he will fight alongside Robert the Bruce. Having already lost his parents and two brothers he doesn’t want to get married and leave a young bride behind if something were to happen to him. But once he meets Caitlin even though he tries to tell himself he doesn’t want a wife; he somehow starts to question his life in general. In other words she gets to him. Caitlin who only wants to escape her bleak existence finds herself drawn to Conner. He is after all oh so sexy….

Needless to say I fear that they are both going to find out that they need each other to find that completeness. Caitlin finds that there is life away from her father and the darkness as she sees the acceptance that the Fraser clan gives to her showing her love. She goes from one extreme to the other. She is enthralled with the fierce loyalty that the Fraser brothers have to each other as she was never privy to this in her old life.

The mountains, battles, castles, clans, smells, foods, people and life in the highlands makes me want to go back in time to live there as Ms. Scott had a way of bringing it to life. I loved the solid story that captured this romantic girl’s heart. I found this simply irresistible from start to finish with the passionate fire of this love story. Did I happen to mention the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts?
