The story of the MacGrough clan begins in "Highland Light".
Not pretty, Ailene knows her suitors only want the glen. She refuses them all. Her father knows she must have a husband, a laird for the small clan. The 18 Knights Templar who secretly negotiate with Robert Bruce must quietly marry into the clans loyal to him. Among the Knights is Gideon. A ward of the Master, barely a man, the warrior knows nothing else. He is as unprepared as she is ready.
Ailene has seen the young man she wants. She will have him and no other. Gideon has honored the vows of chastity. He has no knowledge of women. He and Ailene must learn together.
But Gideon owes his new King service. No matter how much he wishes to stay with his wife, he has a duty. Scotland is fighting for its life against England. At the same time, Gideon's new home is locked in a vicious internal struggle for power. Enemies are everywhere. The clan is in danger from all sides. The small bedroom they share is the only place where the young couple can find peace.

Meet the Author

I came to Alaska kicking and screaming. I never want to leave. I have cut firewood on shares for money to get through the winter. I swore I would not live above the Alaska Range because it was too cold up there and wound up in the Copper River Basin where it got just a cold as Fairbanks. I have farm dressed a bear that came too close to a friend's live stock and was shot by her 12 year old son. The bear bacon I smoked was great. I used a fish wheel to get in salmon for winter. I packed out the salmon a mile up the ridge and a mile down to the road. I have had to lift and hold something that was far past my strength and almost passed out while doing it. I have helped erect the walls of a new room 16 feet in the air and if either of us slipped it was going to be a good long stay in the hospital or a short one in the morgue. I have hauled water in 5 gallon pails and pumped water from 30 gallon garbage cans into the house at below zero temperatures for over 30 years. I am still the best hand wood splitter I know. I have sailed a small sailboat and loved the sound of the wind in the rigging. I lost one husband to alcohol and another to disease. The second one was the love of my life and my best friend. I am Cherime MacFarlane and I am an Alaskan.

Highland Light is an adventure you don't want to miss. I had to laugh at myself, I thought there were a few typos... then I found the glossary in the back and discovered that those 1s in front of a few words were meant to be there. I gradh this book.
