Overview

The Highland Destiny saga begins in Highland Shift, a tale of betrayal, murder, and magick spanning two continents and hundreds of years.

Elena MacFarland wonders what everyone else knows about her new farm that she doesn't, and whether she'll live long enough to find out. Betrayed by her fiancé and the powerful Worthington family, Elena fights back and negotiates a comfortable settlement with one small caveat: she must live in Scotland for two years.

One kidnapping and two attempts on her life later, the darkly arrogant Scot, Faolan MacGailtry declares himself her new protector and moves into her farmhouse. Major problem? He was present at all three incidents. Elena decides to follow the adage to keep her friends close and enemies closer--but which is he? One by one, Elena uncovers Faolan's darkest secrets: his Druid heritage, his connection to her past, and finally, the deadly curse that is powerful enough to destroy them both.

Reader notes: This is the first book of the Highland Destiny series and includes multiple paranormal elements, including Druidry, Fae, shapeshifting and magick. Heat level: slowly builds from extreme sexual tension toward "bring-some-ice-water" hot!

Highland Shift is the first title in the four book Highland Destiny series.

Meet the Author

Raised in California, Laura likes it hot, which explains why she ended up in Arizona via such diverse places as Japan, Maine, and Florida, and many more places in between. After retiring from the US Navy, she found a niche working for land management agencies, including the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Though she has held many jobs around the world, her favorite was working and living in Grand Canyon National Park. Working (and eating) in New Orleans was a close second. You will find many of her books are set against the rich backdrops provided by coastal Louisiana and northern Arizona. When asked how she started writing, Laura tells of waking on Boxing Day a few years ago, with a woman named Elena MacFarland yammering in her dreams, demanding her story be told. Despite never attempting to write fiction before that morning, Laura ignored all of the holiday visitors and the Highland Destiny series was born. She doesn’t believe it was a coincidence that the great grandmother who died when Laura was just a baby was named Elena MacFarland. Destiny does play a hand.Laura became a full-time writer in 2012, and now she spends her time writing, watching her Arizona Diamondbacks, and working on her very own version of the Willow Springs Ranch in northwestern Arizona. She is a multi-published author of erotic romance, mystery, and urban fantasy and her books can be found at all major online retailers.

    It's decent

I got excited bc it said highland and I'm a sucker for a highlander Scotland story, but it was too sexual. The plot was good but the sex scenes were too graphic for me. At any rate it's free and I would have been highly pissed if I paid 3.99 like the rest of the books in the series; which I won't be purchasing.

Very good book, characters seemed well thought out, involved plot twists added to the story line and you know there is going to be a lot more involved either now or later. I was so upset by the last turn of events I had to read the end to make sure everything turned out before I could go back and take my time reading the last 2 chapters. Haven't had to do that for a long time. I'll be ordering the next 2 today.

    Good

Very good read, so thorough with the back story and explanations. Lots of action, loads of sexiness and enough scottish brogue to get your heart pumping! Very good start to what promises to be a great series! I gave it 4 stars because there were a few grammatical errors but those look more like a lack of good editing team.

    Good read

This was a good read, Elena made me crazy in part of this with her failing to remember or mention a couple of really important things. There is a lot of pretty graphic sex in this book but I enjoyed it, a bit of a time travel/fantasy combo. Anxious to read the next in the series.

    Very enjoyable!

This was a fantastic tale of the highlander with a twist. The story was very easy to read and was very interesting. The characters were well developed and easy to enjoy. I like how they didn't know what their roles were and ended up learning things along the way. Very enjoyable read and look forward to reading book 2 and 3. Highly recommend!

    Very entertaining

Faolan and Elana's story was very entertaining twist of love, mystery , Druid and Fae. I couldn't stop reading the book, it weaved a spell of enchantment over the story. The only thing I got tired of was so many sex scenes . I got where I would skip them to get on with the answers to the suspence of the plot. I will definately read the sequel books.

    2 stars

It was okay. Don't feel compelled to buy the next ones though. Some good ideas but not all plot twists were explained even though the characters moved on. Confusing at times. Sex scenes hot at first but so numerous they got old and I started to skip them. Glad i read it but not sad I finished it.

    Needs some work

I really liked the story line scotland, werewolves, druids, suspense. The first couple sex scenes were really steamy but then it was more sex than story so it got pretty boring. Then Elana cried at EVERYTHING! Every romantic thing he did she teared up or cried. Can't she just be happy with out tears? There are two parts to this book the beginning written by a talented authur and the middle and end written as if by a horny teenager. I won't buy the rest of the series.

    Storyline was pretty good, but...

The CONSTANT sex scenes grew to be a little much. I mean, does anyone not on drugs have sex 5 times in a night? Then again the next morning? All these dire things are happening around them, the fate of the world hangs in the balance and all they can think about is getting each other naked. Be real!!

I enjoyed this book. Great story and characters. If you enjoy books with hot sex then this book is for you. I wished that authors would leave somethings to the imagination. This book would have been better with it toned down a bit, just my opinion. I will continue to read the next book in the series.

    Annoyed

I love reading about Scotland & really cannot resist that gorgeous, huge man in a kilt (jeans, suit, (nothing?)) - however, I am so ticked when I read a book that reads like I'm stupid & won't notice one of the main characters is an idiot! So she is an attorney, smart (if naive) & can search on wolves, know about original clan & Scottish law but doesn't think to tell the hunk-a-scottish love about the secret stuff she found that is so obvious he needs? Oh & yeah the weird thing she did with her hands to get the old hidden door to open? I want this fixed before I pick up the book in the next minute or so. Thanks. Now the new twist on shape shifters is great & the book has a lot to say for itself & want to give a good review. Want to.

    Okay story

Author could have written alot better story with more story and left out the over abundance of the micro detailed sex scenes. Got rather boring so i just skipped the last dozen or so sex scenes

    Great read

I was impressed I have not read this author before, the story was captivating. There was actually a point in the book where you thought it was over and goes in another adventure. This book has it all great sex, heart rending sadness, joy, bad guys to really hate, sexy somewhat arrogant leading man. This is a must read
