Great Scottish tale! I have just finished reading HIGHLANDER IN

    Great Scottish tale!
I have just finished reading HIGHLANDER IN HER BED by Allie MacKay. I have read her previous book Highlander In Her Bed and loved it, so I decided to read this one too. What a beautiful surprise! Allie MacKay, did it again, she didn't disappoint me. I loved Mara MacDougall and Alexander Douglas's romantic story, it was perfect for me. It had every elements to please a fan of paranormal. Mara is a tour guide who inherits a Scottish castle. Then the fun began! It was funny, romantic and filled with sizzling hot scenes. You'll love this pair! If you love a romance with a touch of fantasy, and you just want to enjoy a story that includes a Scottish ghost, then you'll have fun reading Highlander in her Bed. I recommend this Scottish tale!

    Sort of fun!

This was sort of a fluffy romance novel. Fun for what it was. I would read more by this author.

4 1/2 stars! West Highlands, near Oban, 1312 Sir Alexander D

    4 1/2 stars!

    West Highlands, near Oban, 1312

Sir Alexander Douglas is on his way to claim his bride when he and his men are set upon by MacDougalls. His intended has betrayed him, he and his men are dying and with his last breath he curses the carved four poster bed he had made for his new bride...."You will rue the hour you e'er laid eyes on my bed. I shall haunt you and your issue until the end of all days, that I swear." His curse on the MacDougalls etched onto eternity.

Present day, London and then Scotland

Mara McDougall runs a tour business for would-be ghost hunters. As she is taking a break and finding some downtime from her work for just a bit she finds herself in an antique shop and comes upon an unusual four poster bed. She falls in love with it but knows she has no room for it in the states. She runs into a tall, handsome Highlander who she feels is dressed rather funny and he tells her to "Begone! Her ilk will never sleep in his bed." then he just ups and disappears. His rudeness infuriates her. She goes back to her hotel to find a message from a solicitor. She meets him to find that she's inherited Ravenscraig Castle from an eccentric old lady who took a liking to her when she ran her tours through her mansion in the Cotswolds. The castle is in Scotland and in order to keep it she has to erect a MacDougall memorial on the castle grounds and reunite the clan. She now has a place for that bed she fell in love with.

She arrives at her castle only to find him there to her amazement. She soon starts to believe he IS a ghost and this starts a funny and yet trying journey for these two. For hundreds of years Alex has haunted the bed and scared away all MacDougalls but here comes this American woman who stands her ground and he finds himself falling in love with the enemy. What a humorous and heart pulling story! Two people who find each other across time and came to find that real love and a little magic can conquer all. I was even oh so glad to see a favorite hero of mine make an appearance.... Sir Marmaduke Strongbow in all his ghostly glory!

"Paranormal Romp" is a Paranormal Flop

"Highlander in Her Bed" is one of those books that doesn't leave a reader satisfied. Even when Mara cried, "Don't stop," I wished it would.

In present day London Mara McDougall, a self-employed tour guide from Philadelphia, needs a breather from the ghost tour group she's been leading around. Slipping into an antique store, Mara spots a beautiful medieval, four-poster bed which she buys after suddenly inheriting an old highland castle and a fortune.

What she doesn't know is that her new bed is haunted by the ghost of Sir Alexander Douglas - a Scottish knight who was murdered by Mara's ancestor, Colin MacDougall, 700 years ago. He has vowed that no one from her family will have a peaceful night in his bed. But when Alex and Mara meet it's lust at first sight.

MacKay can write well, but seems to slip into gimmicky phrases. The most abundant being "Hottie Scottie" which, at one point, appears four times on a single page. Alex is Scottish and he's very handsome. We get it!

The major flaw is the novel's utter lack of romance. The lead characters are too preoccupied with physical lust to really learn anything about one another other than basic of personality traits. The chemistry between Alex and Mara boils down to nothing more than "Hey you're hot, let's do it." Their love is unrealistic because it doesn't seem rooted in anything but lust.

Thankfully, MacKay's book isn't all "Hottie Scottie" and Mara. The novel boasts a delightful cast of supporting characters ranging from the disgruntled, old castle caretaker, Murdoch, to Alex's best friend, a perpetually horny ghost called Hardwick (pun intended). Their quirkiness adds to the color of the Scottish highlands as well as the humor of human interactions. Sadly, the supporting characters are highly underused. They act as quick flashes of delight that are gone before you know it.

"Highlander in Her Bed" is a one night stand that fizzles out before the night is through and leaves you wondering why you agreed to it in the first place.

    Quite Good !

I did enjoy this read, the sex scenes really make your cheeks flame! It had some great laughs, lots of good scottish stuff. As one of the other reviewers stated, there might be a few down times in the storey.... but with the steam scenes you tend to overlook it ! Enjoy . . .

    A superb paranormal romance

London tour guide Mara McDougall sees the delightfully looking bed at an antique shop and ponders how she can afford to buy it before she realizes someone is in it or at least the ghost of someone no one else seems to notice the occupant. Sir Alexander Douglas lived in fourteenth century Scotland until he was betrayed by a member of the MacDougall clan, who killed him and stole his intended. All their descendents are his enemy.---- Mara and Sir Alex meet up again in an ancient castle. He wants to hate her, but finds instead he desires her worse he likes her sass. She, in turn, wants him, but also hopes to end the curse so he can go onto the next plane though that will leave her with mixed feelings she sees no avenue for their love to bring them together as universal rules of time and space say otherwise.-------------- This is a superb paranormal romance in which the actions and reactions of the lead couple insures that readers will believe in ghosts (and a few other things). The changing relationship between Alex and Mara make for a fine story line. He initially wants to destroy all MacDougalls and she prefers he just haunt someone else over time their interactions change and soon love blossoms. Fans will enjoy the HIGHLANDER IN HER BED though the best moments are out of her bed.-------------- Harriet Klausner

    Just OK...

This book had a cute premise, but did not live up to expectations. The story was very simple and repetitive, the only thing that kept me going was the great sex scenes! There are so many better books out there, I probly wouldn't waste my time on this one.

    Sexy Scottish Read!

If you like antique beds, ghosts, and Scotland, this book is for you! When the heroine buys an antique bed, she soon faces a handsome, yet angry Scottish Highlander ghost from a time long past. He's from a rival clan, and does not want her sleeping in his bed. Sexy, fun, a great afternoon read. Most enjoyable.

    Ghosts Never looked So Good!

Want a change from your average paranormal with ghosts and things that go bump in the night? Then pick up Highlander In Her Bed. This first offering of Ms Mackay is a keeper for sure. Mara MacDougall is a heroine after your own heart and Sir Alex would make any woman want to skip the right now and head for the hereafter if she knew he'd be waiting on the other side. Set in present day time of the Highlands of Scotland this tale of honor lost then found, love never known then discovered made me feel like I was actually there watching it all happen along the cliffs on which Ravenscraig Castle sits. The fine attention to detail makes one stop and actually wish they could travel 'across the pond' just to step on this firm packed soil of peat and heather. And just when you think the tension be it sexual, dangerous, or otherwise is at it's limit, a whole host of secondary characters take you along on a jaunting ride and bring you back down to earth. The best was 'Hardwick', I loved not only his humor but his fierce loyalty to Alex, and hope his is a future offering we can look forward to. For myself, I felt the love scenes were well written and the sexual content was used in a way as to enhance the story not take away from it in any way. By the end of this book all I could think was 'when is the next one coming out'. Unlike others I have read this book didn't devote one chapter to present day then the next to past times, which I liked. It can get pretty confusing when that happens and you often times forget if you are in the here and now or the then and was. Kudos Allie, and well done!

elf employed tour guide Mara McDougal spots an ancient, lovely bed in a shop and longs to buy it, be it is not only out of her price range, but far too large to fit in her home if she wants to have any other furniture at all. Then, by the chance of her name, she inherits a grand, Scottish castle and is able to buy the bed, not realizing that it comes comeplete with a ghost. Alex Douglas has hated the MacDougals for seven centuries since one stole his bride and killed him. His dying words were a curse that condemned him to haunt the bed he intended to give his wife, and now, that bed is Mara's. At first, she can't believe in the ghost, but soon, her disbelief and his prejuidice turn to better things. However, their being together violates ancient laws, and might end Alex's time on Earth in a less than pleasant way unless some way can be found for them to be in love lawfully. ........... *** Although a little too much time is spent exploring what is done in that bed, the beautiful ending makes up for the graphic verbage. ***
