Overview

Three decades removed from their last recording as a duo, these longtime compadres use this reunion disc to demonstrate that they haven't lost the preternatural bond that fuses their voices together in thick-as-thieves harmony. Since both David Crosby and Graham Nash always excelled at ballads, this 20-tune collection is rife with mellow interludes, ranging from deeply introspective, such as the wizened twilight-years musing "Lay Me Down," to the unabashedly outgoing, as on the sweet, poignant "I Surrender." Several of the cuts depart from straight-ahead two-part sing-alongs, most notably "How Does It Shine," which finds the duo slipping a bit of jazz-tinged phrasing into their repertoire. While some of the songs on the two-disc set come across as afterthoughts -- particularly the eye-rolling "Penguin in a Palm Tree" -- there's enough snap and crackle in tracks like the CEO-bashing "They Want It All" to light a fire under longtime fans and casual listeners alike.

I feel like I should know the words, already! The voices, the harmonies, they bring me back. Having been a fan of David's and Graham's for over 30 years, this new collection is a must have. Background music, sing along or just for intent listening, it's a music style that never gets stale. While this collection of new tunes stands out on its own, it's as though Wind On The Water and Whistling Down The Wire were released only a few short years ago - the melodies, singing and musicianship just keep flowing.
