Hiking with Your Dogby Gary Hoffman
The information in Hiking with your Dog is based on the real challenges of wilderness travel. The book covers the basics of training a dog to walk at your side to minimize first contact with other hikers and dogs. It also offers a good discussion of how to deal with obstacles, such as stream crossings and boulders.

Anyone who backpacks with their favorite dog should read this book. Informative, humorous, a must read for those who want their camping experience to be a pleasant one. I was particularly impressed with the author's knowledge of potential disasters. It's and easy read and an excellent resource book for anyone who is concerned with the safety of their canine companion. It should be taken on any hike, whether one day or one month.
Lots of commonsense information, but the book would be a more enjoyable read if someone had bothered to correct the grammar and the spelling. A few typos are excusable, but this book is riddled with them.
