Overview

HIM: His Infernal Majesty recounts the full story of this popular and unique group, who--through their groundbreaking combination of gothic metal and mainstream power ballads, have become established as among the foremost post-millennial rock acts.

Already well established in Europe and with a number of sold-out tours and major festival appearances in the USA to their credit, HIM are set to be the hot goth/alternative rock act of the decade. Led by charismatically photogenic vocalist Ville Valo, as 'Love Metal'--a fusion of gothic and mainstream rock influences that transcends existing genres and affords them enormous crossover appeal.

In HIM: His Infernal Majesty, author Reinhardt Haydn recounts the full story of the band's rise from a Helsinki covers group to global rock phenomenon. In addition to a wealth of interviews and anecdotes, Haydn explores the band's unique ethos and the genesis of their 'Love Metal' sound.

    Decent

There really is not much to base this title against since it is the only one about HIM I could find on the market. It was nicely written and the pics were not lacking at all(which tends to be habit in books about music). I also liked the many quotes sprinkled throughout. I also enjoyed the fact that it was about all members in the band, not just Mr. Valo(though I am sure that book would be wonderfully done and a best seller). However, I do think the book makes it seem as though the band had no trouble whatsoever getting a record deal, and that is usually not the case. They were just kinda playing local gigs around Findland and surrounding areas then poof, fame and fortune? Maybe I should move to Findland and start a group if it's that easy over there. I personally don't think it was gravy for them, but it would have been nice if the book would have made it a bit more clearer. All in all a nicely done book, and a quick read. Also ignore the spelling in the book. Those over the pond from the US spell things a bit differently than we do. If you can find a copy, I suggest buying it.

    HIM obsessed...HIM for life

This book was very well written.
Not just based on the lead man Ville Valo, but also explores the lives of the rest of the previous and present band members.

With rare photographs of HIM when they were just getting into the music business, they really tell us the story of there lives.

HIM is not at all a sell out band.
They always think of others, and put deep deep meaning into their songs.

I enjoyed how the author explored and brought out the attention that all of the band members enjoy each other and all work together to make momentary music.

    HIM

It an amazing story through the rise of the band HIM. Ville Valo writes incredible lyrics, and the music from the recent members is fantastic. Also, it was enjoyable how it didn't only focus on Ville Valo's life story but the lives of everyone in the band. The only problem was there are a few spelling mistakes, but the Finnish was perfect. If someone has interest in the band, or their upbringing, this would be a great book. It gives insight into who the members are, not only there music but why they write it. Its also more back when Dark Light came out in 2004. So it Has no information about rehab, the break up, or Venus Doom.

    A reviewer

I read this and thought it was very well written, not to mention oober interesting. Its full of incredible photography of the band members, including super hot singer Ville Valo, who graces the cover. If youre into this band, then its a must-read, because you learn a lot about who they were before they were well known.
