Overview

In war-torn Myrillia, an ominous artifact is found. It is a skull, twisted and corrupted by dark Graces-the work of the evil, demonic Cabal set on destroying the Nine Lands. Former Shadowknight Tylar must unravel the mystery of the skull before all of Myrillia is threatened.

But the Cabal is not the only danger. Tylar returns to the Citadel and regains his knighthood-and forces out of Ice Eyrie launch an attack trapping Tylar and the Shadowknights. More terrible is an ancient threat rising out of the dark depths of the Citadel itself.

To save the Nine Lands, Tylar must enter the Hinterland, the desolate territory beyond the blessed Lands, where rogue gods roam and dark Graces flow-and from which no Shadowknight has ever returned...

Sacramento veterinarian Jim Czajkowski may be the greatest -- and most prolific -- modern-day adventure writer that no one has ever heard of. Under the pseudonyms James Rollins (author of high-octane thrillers like Black Order, Map of Bones, et al.) and James Clemens (author of the critically acclaimed Banned and the Banished fantasy saga), Czajkowski has become an enigmatic literary heavyweight in both genres. But the work that may very well become his magnum opus is his Godslayer Chronicles, an epic fantasy set in a sprawling world ruled by a hundred benevolent gods, with an unspeakable evil force bent on destroying the realm of Myrillia once and for all.

Tylar de Noche has lived a life of extremes: He has been revered as a Shadowknight, scorned as a crippled beggar, stood accused of killing a god, and is now the new regent of Chrismferry. Called to the Citadel of Tashijan (ancient headquarters of the Shadowknights) to have his name officially cleared and to be reinstated as a knight, Tylar soon realizes that all the pomp and circumstance was merely an elaborate ruse to entrap him. As an ungodly storm rages outside the stronghold, Tylar and a small group of misfit comrades discover that a cabal practicing dark arts has uncovered a way to manipulate the gods themselves…

Fans of richly tapestried, character-driven fantasy epics by authors like Robert Jordan, R. A. Salvatore, and George R. R. Martin who are looking for the next big blockbuster saga should definitely seek out Clemens's Godslayer Chronicles. While it isn't quite Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, it comes close… Literary escapism at its very best! Paul Goat Allen

The Battle of Myrrwood is over, and two of the Hundred Gods are dead. A faction of demonic creatures vows to destroy the Nine Lands, and only Tyler ser Noche, a former knight, can prevent the destruction of his world. Regaining his knighthood, Tyler and his Shadowknights must travel to the desolate Hinterland in search of the means to save his world. Clemens continues the saga begun in Shadowfall with a gripping, tautly constructed tale of a man's struggle to regain his honor and deliver his world from destruction. This high fantasy belongs in most fantasy collections. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

This 2nd one is so GREAT. When you get to the really good parts and you are about to find out something juicy, Clemens switch the storyline to another area in Myrillia. Then you're like darn it! And you must keep reading to get back to that. But then the storyline that he switches to also gets juicy, and when you are about to find out something juicy there, he switches back to the other storyline, and darn it again. After I finished reading it, I just sat there with it trying to hold on to the moment.

Tylar Ser Noche has been called many things in his life including Shadowknight, murderer, and Godslayer amongst the kinder epitaphs. Warden Fields pursued hum until he caught him and sold him into slavery there Tylar was broken in body and spirit. He healed as he provided comfort to a dying goddess who put her naethryn inside him so that his humors flowed with Grace (magic). Now he returns to the stronghold of the Shadowknights where Fields and Tylar¿s treacherous ex-lover live in order to be inducted back into the Shadowknights.---------------- When Tylar and his entourage arrive at the stronghold of Tashijan, everyone inside knows they are trapped. Ulf the God of Eyrie sends a storm that will kill everyone unless they hand over Tylar to him. He believes that Tylar is an abomination because a mortal must never carry a God¿s Grace. At the same time in the underground beneath the building is the former castellan who has joined the dark, who wnts everyone inside Tashijan dead so she can rule as the First Land. Tylar is the tug of war between godly forces that could devastate a world.------------------- HINTERLAND is an action oriented sword and sorcery saga as James Clemens creates an intricately detailed fantasy world that readers will easily visualize. Similar to Greek mythology, the realm is an interesting place where gods live and interact with humans on a daily basis. The protagonist and the key support cast are fully developed and critical to this fine tale. It is easy to understand what motivates them though at least Tylar is quite a deep character. As the audience learns who is arranging for a full second God War, questions left dangling concerning the plot should be answered in the next Godslayer Chronicle.------------- Harriet Klausner
