Hip Asian Comfort Food is the perfect cookbook for anyone who would like to add Asian flavors to your own cooking repertoire without laboring for hours. Dennis Chan shows the home cook how to re-create the Hip Asian food that comes out of his kitchen, Blue Bamboo. I have tried 6 recipes, all of which have turned out well. Stories about each recipe and tips on how to make it turn out just right add to the enjoyment of every page. And what I like about this book is that every recipe has a beautiful photograph of what the dish is supposed to look like when it's finished. I feel like an insider now that I have learned how some of my favorite foods are made. The book is worth every penny I have paid for it. I am giving copies of it for Christmas this year. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

The Blue Bamboo Restaurant is a popular Jacksonville, Florida dining establishment that Dennis Chan established in 2005. Judging by the mouth-watering recipes he has compiled in the profusely illustrated pages of "Hip Asian Comfort Food", he has richly deserved his culinary success as a restaurateur. Each featured recipe begins with a brief introductory paragraph of commentary, followed by serving size information, ingredients list, and step-by-step instructions. The recipes themselves are organized into colorful chapters featuring 'Street Eats', 'Potables', 'Plates', 'Mein Street', and 'Happy Endings'. The dishes themselves range from Crispy-Spicy Oysters; Warm Chai Tea; Kung Pao Tofu; and Vietnamese Coconut-Curry Rice Noodles with Duck; to Easy Jasmine Rice; Kabocha Squash Wontons; Peanut Butter Trifle; and Asian Sangria Granita. "Hip Asian Comfort Food" is an ideal, gourmet quality, highly recommended collection of recipes that would grace any personal, family, or community library regional/ethnic cookbook collection. Was this review helpful?
