An Intimate Look at L.A.’s Hottest Trendsetters and the Inspiring Spaces They Live In

Rooted in innovation, aspiration, and tradition, daring in its scale and often in its luxury, Los Angeles style is unique. Nothing expresses these values more strikingly or more beautifully than the homes of L.A.’s hippest and most influential set: the designers, artists, stylists, and entrepreneurs whose tastes lead the way for American style.

“Just like the people who live here, Hollywood homes reflect a creativity and sensibility that is rarely seen elsewhere....With Hip Hollywood Homes, Sue Hostetler has given us a chance to peek inside some of the most uniquely designed residences in Los Angeles.” —Courteney Cox Arquette

“What does the word ‘hip’ mean, anyway? The reason I choose to live in Los Angeles is that I’m inspired by the architecture here—by the freedom of so many choices Angelenos have in how they want to live, both visually and emotionally. Style is so personal here. To me, everything about Los Angeles is about freedom—and that's hip!” —Sharon Stone

“Hollywood used to be all about cheese and glitz and schlock. What happened? Every house in this book is so hip and groovy you just want to move right in.” —Simon Doonan, Creative Director, Barneys New York

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Old Hollywood was, as one designer put it, "all cheese and glitz and shlock"; the New Hollywood is different. Sue Hostetetler's large-size pictorial reveals Tinsel Town as a thriving center of design innovation and hip elegance. The author of Oceans takes us inside trendsetters' homes that exude freedom and style. Dream home up close.
Library Journal
Hostetler (Oceans) focuses on homes in a strip of Los Angeles County that stretches from the Los Feliz area in the east to Malibu in the west. Unlike Architectural Digest Hollywood at Home, which focused on the homes of the stars, this work visits 20 residences belonging to people behind the scenes who are setting trends in entertainment and style, e.g., Juicy Couture cofounder Pamela Skaist-Levy, party promoter Brent Bolthouse, and Sex and the City creator and executive producer Darren Star. Through color photographs and brief biographies of the owners, Hostetler shows how those in the know live. It is pleasantly surprising that so many of these trendsetters have not torn down the original buildings but have renovated them. As a result, they're able to enjoy the homes of such renowned architects as John Lautner, Wallace Neff, Richard Neutra, and Paul Williams. Recommended for large interior design collections.
