Short Novel (approximately 31,000 words)

Bereft of beauty as well as fortune, the exceedingly plain Miss Jane Featherstone has failed to attract any suitor during her three Seasons. Rather than be a burden to her brother and his obnoxious wife, Miss Featherstone vows to accept the first man who asks—even though she's always worshipped a lord who's far above her touch. . .

Lord Slade must marry an heiress in order to honor the deathbed vow he made to his father, and he needs Miss Featherstone's help in wooing her beautiful cousin. After her initial anger, Miss Featherstone agrees to his scheme, telling him she's doing so because she admires his Parliamentary record of humanitarian legislation and his reverence for truth. But the more he's with the two cousins, the more attracted he becomes to Miss Featherstone. What's a man of his word to do? Break a vow to a beloved father—or follow his heart with Miss Featherstone?

A thoroughly enjoyable short story. I love stories where the heroine is not perfectly beautiful. It seems more believable that not only the diamonds of the first water can find happiness. Give us more.

Although his heart wasn’t in it, Lord Jack Slade made a vow to his dying father that he would secure the hand of an heiress to save the family home and provide for his younger siblings. Plain Jane Featherstone, of a good family with empty pockets, fell in love with Lord Slade years ago, but she’s always known she’ll never attract him, and she certainly doesn’t meet the new criteria needed to satisfy that blasted vow he made to his father. Fortunately, Jane’s beautiful cousin Lady Sarah meets the requirements of the vow quite nicely, and Jane, being a realist, agrees to help the man she loves to gain the affections of her lovely cousin so he can fulfill his vow. However; when Jack’s opportunity arises to court Lady Sarah unencumbered by her London suitors, he learns that Jane now has a socially inferior but vastly wealthy suitor of her own. Jack reluctantly and belatedly realizes Jane is his ideal woman, but the vow leaves him deeply conflicted. Should he pursue the lady of his heart or honor a deathbed vow to save his home and family?
Watching this sweet and entertaining plot unfold is quite enjoyable. Cheryl Bolen injects her hero and heroine with such warmth, compassion, and interests in common, that you know Jane and Jack are meant to be together. All of the secondary characters are interesting and appealing in their own way, most especially Jane’s suitor Mr. Poppinbotham, who bedecks himself in such a color-challenged hodgepodge of mismatched garments that I could visually imagine him preening about Regency London oblivious to the startled gasps of others. And, while Mr. Poppinbotham definitely doesn’t steal the show, such a man, who is both pompous and willing guided and pleased by the acts of more discerning individuals, is entirely redeemable and I’d love to see Ms. Bolen given him his own happy ending.

    Sweet

I really enjoyed this little book. It was short and sweet without all the vulgar sex scenes. It had honorable characters. There were a few grammatical errors, but otherwise well written.

This might be a short story,  although not that short, but it was very good. I really enjoyed this story, I thought it was going to be one of those sad stories but Charles comes through and follows his heart. Wish I could be Jane! LOL I would highly recommend reading this book. Definitely worth the money!

    Awesome!

This was a really short read. The story line was really simple and it was a very loving story. My only problem with the book is that the ending seemed rushed and too fast. It was a good ending though. Definitly read it! I'm definitly going to read her other books.
