We were required to read it as part of pre-marital counselling homework, and I'm so glad of that, because now we can really address the true needs of eachother. Important work, presented in an interesting but at times, depressing way. Got the audio book and listened in one night while folding away laundry. Bit of a dry narrator but the stories are juicy. If you're a couple about to marry, this will seem quite a downer. Chapters 2-12 are filled with example stories of real couples that cheated due to not meeting eachothers emotional needs. Chapter 1 is a general warning with the list of top 10 emotional human needs. Chapter 13 is a call to action and a review of each need. Super useful! I gave my fiance these cliff notes so he could skip the depressing content and we both felt we learned valuable information to succeed. The emotional needs information is probably urgently important. We all have a unique set of 5 top emotional needs and the author lists the top 10. 5 are TYPICALLY true to men and the other 5 are TYPICALLY true to women, but for everyone it will be different and a different level of priority for each. So this book truly can set up a marriage for success or perhaps fix one.
