Overview

Wrongly accused of murdering his father, Drake Thornton MacDougall wanted nothing more than to take revenge against his guilty and duplicitous half-brother. So he struck at him the only way he could...by abducting his bride-to-be. Yet when Drake carried his captive off to a windswept Scottish isle, he found more trouble than he ever dreamed. For Lady Averyl Campbell was no biddable maiden, but an alluring, strong-willed beauty who would not be cowed by his dark moods and smoldering anger. Setting: Scotland1486 Drake Thornton MacDougall has been falsely accused of killing his father, Lochlan. The man that set him up to take the blame is his half brother, Murdoch MacDougall. With the death of their father, Murdoch plans to replace Lochlan as chief of the clan and inherit his father's wealthy. After two years in Murdoch's dungeon Drake's childhood friends, Aric, the Earl of Bedford and Kieran Broderick help him escape. He returns to Dunollie Castle to seek revenge by kidnapping Murdoch's future bride, Lady Averyl Campbell. In doing so Murdoch cannot fulfill the terms of his father's will which states that Murdoch must marry Lady Averyl before her eighteenth birthday. To Drake, Averyl is a beautiful if not sharp-tongued woman that's clan have been enemies with the MacDougall clan for generations. Lady Averyl Campbell must marry to protect her clan with a strong ally and bring money for much needed repairs to her beloved home, Abbotsford. Her father has told Averyl that she is a plain woman and to have a match with Murdoch MacDougall is a blessing, believing herself half in love with him, she agrees with her father's plans for her marriage. Averyl unlike most ladies of leisure has a strong feeling of responsible for her impoverished clan. Drake must keep Averyl from his brother until her next birthday in nine months, he make a handfast marriage of one year with Averyl. But when it comes to consummating the marriage, Drake can't take her in revenge. Averyl wants a marriage with love and children but knows that in one year her marriage to Drake will be over if she can't soften his hardened heart. As the couple begins to know each other the fear Averyl has for Drake turns to love and understanding .....turning her from a captive to a willing bride. HIS STOLEN BRIDE is the second book in Ms. Bradley's Brothers In Arms trilogy with Drake appearing in the first, HIS LADY BRIDE. Drake is a hero that has had a darker than most relationship with his mother and half-brother but his love for his father has him willingly die to get revenge for his death. Drake has never had a woman that he could trust until Averly and the love between the two is smoldering at times. Averyl blooms in front of our eyes as Drake shows her with his loving touches what a beautiful woman she is. With the theme of captive turn lover, this is an excellent read that at times takes the readers on an emotional rollercoaster as Averyl tries to understand her tormented captor. Drake must prove his innocence and identify the true killer of his father for the couple to have more than a handfast marriage. The mystery will keep you turning the pages to find the answer. I look forward to reading Kieran Broderick's story, HIS REBEL BRIDE which was released March 2001.

Murdoch had his father, Lochlan, murdered and his half-brother, Drake, to take the blame. After two years of the dungeon, pain, and escape, Drake returned for revenge. Murdoch may have become chief, but he could not get the inheritance of Lochlan's unless he married Lady Averyl Campbell. On the eve of Murdoch and Averyl's betrothal ceremony, Drake kidnapped her.

Averyl had to marry well to help restore her home of Abbotsford and feed her people. She vowed to escape Drake and return to Murdoch. But soon she sees the truth and would do all in her power to help the man she had come to love so dearly!

*** This one is enough to make any romantic lady swoon! Filled with danger, betrayal, and passion, it will keep its readers coming back for more! Shelley Bradley is an author to watch for! ***

Such a powerfully written story! You will applaud the heroine's strength and feel for her weaknesses. You will grieve for the hero's hurt and cry for the proof of his love for his wife. This story truly touched my heart! A very satisfying second story in the trilogy....I can only hope Kieran's story is half as good!
