"He shone brighter than the sun—I should have known
that looking at him directly would have blinded me,
that getting too close would have burned me."

It's not every day that a handsome French billionaire comes to the rescue on the subway and saves an ordinary girl from a drunken madman.

It was Madison's lucky day. Finally.

She had no way of knowing that her life was about to change forever, that a terrifying incident would lead to the most incredible meeting of a lifetime.

Every passenger on the train stares at their feet as a knife wielding drunk advances toward Madison, Girard risks his own life to stand up for her...to protect her.

Pressed for time and already running late for an interview, Madison is unable to properly thank her breathtakingly handsome savoir. She tries her best to forget about the kind stranger, thinking that even if she did find him again, what could he possibly see in a girl like her?

Fate brings them together again, this time in the beautiful city of Paris and under much more pleasant circumstances. Girard's charming personality and his genuine affections for Madison leave her reeling, as she is swept helplessly into a whirlwind of passion.

As things heat up between them, Madison struggles to allow herself to trust in him, to believe that she deserves a man as incredible as he is, to accept that she's entitled to a little bit of happiness.

Just when life seems perfect, her dream is shattered by an email she isn't supposed to see. How could she have been so naive...

His to Shatter is a contemporary romance story about trust, forgiveness, and unlikely love.

This story features sexually explicit scenes and graphic subject matter that is not intended for readers under 18 years of age.

“Tell me more about yourself,” he prompted, taking a sip of his cappuccino.

“Well,” I said, “I’m from Pennsylvania, originally. I share an apartment on the Lower East Side with my friends Ashlee and Dara. They were with me at the club—the ones flirting shamelessly with you. I’m studying international marketing at NYU. I love to run, especially in the morning. I love the arts—theatre, film, museums. I wish I could play the violin.”

“Maybe your boyfriend could buy you some lessons?” Girard suggested. We grinned at the inelegant segue.

“I don’t have a boyfriend,” I clarified, my heart pounding.

“That’s good,” Girard said.

“Will your wife mind your taking me out so late at night?” I replied.

“She might if she existed,” Girard answered.

“How about your girlfriend?”

“Haven’t got one.”

“How about Monica,” I said pointedly.

“She’ll have more fun busting balls at the club than she would chaperoning us, I’m sure,” Girard said. I was glad that her hold on him didn’t seem to be as strong as I’d feared. Still, the look in her eye as we’d walked away at the club...there was something I didn’t trust about her.

We finished up our treats, chatting about anything and everything that came to mind. I found myself talking to Girard like an old friend, rather than as a supplicant to a god. Even though I’d spent all those months building him up into a towering figure in my imagination, he was turning out to be an even better companion in real life. He was utterly unpretentious, confident but not cocky, and seemed to be genuinely interested in the things I had to say. In short, he seemed far too good to be true. We picked ourselves up to leave, thanked the waiter, and headed back out into the night.

“I suppose I’ll be turning in,” I said.

“Let me walk you,” Girard replied.

“Sure,” I said, and took his arm once more. As we tripped along the darkened streets, I looked up at his perfect profile in wonder. As I gazed at him, a sudden thought bombarded my mind. When we arrived at my loft, would I ask him up? Was that even something that I knew how to do? I had certainly never done it before. Was there some kind of protocol that I was supposed to follow for situations like this?

I worried all the way back to my front door, my mind reeling with what in the world I was supposed to do next. We stopped on the sidewalk in front of my apartment and fell silent. In a crisis of indecision, I looked up into Girard’s eyes. He was returning my gaze with those deep, intelligent eyes.

As inexperienced as I was, I could see the desire welling in them. A throbbing need began to pulse through me...

Editorial Reviews

Haley Pearce
His To Shatter is about the triumph of the human spirit, the realized ambitions of a girl from a bad place who chooses to rise above her surroundings instead of wallowing in them.

Most of all, this story is about how we can't do anything alone in this world, nothing worth doing at least. We all need to eventually open ourselves and trust in other people who have earned it. We deserve success, we deserve nice things, we deserve happiness.

Meet the Author

Haley has always been a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. Her love for literature began when she was very small and she can still remember her trips to the local library as some of her fondest childhood memories. She knew at a young age that she wanted to share her passion for storytelling and one day become a writer.

Haley writes stories about capable, intelligent, and resilient young women who overcome incredible odds to finally find the love they truly deserve. Her characters are deeply personal and often reflect some of her own insecurities and deepest fears. Haley's stories are about the beauty of the human spirit, the struggles that we all face, and the universal truth that you can't do anything alone.

She believes that learning to trust, to submit yourself completely to another person, and to love unconditionally are the most virtuous lessons that can be learned. These major themes encompass the entirety of her passionate storytelling.

This book should not be classified as an erotic romance. The amount of sex is similar to most romance novels. The first sex scene was half way through the book. This book reads like it is a compelation of a series of short stories. All that being said I found that I couldn't put the book down and enjoyed the characters and the story.

Really mediocre. Like something thrown together to cash in with a vague what romance readers want. Would've given three stars but author is corrupt. his author is using fake reviews to boost her rank. Look up ABBlog and Fallstone BookReview - they dont exist! She insults readers and reviewers from Goodreads and writes as Denise Avery too. I will not buy from writers who treat readers like crap and try to trick them.

Madison's character hit home personally, it's a terrible lifelong struggle to overcome alcoholic parents and I really projected myself onto her in this story. A little predictable at times but I couldn't stop wondering what's next? and is he ever going to KISS her!
