Overview

For well over a century, the lure of scenic beaches and ocean waves have drawn visitors to the Jersey Shore. Presidents had summer homes where they could escape the pressures of office. Editorial Reviews

Fr. John I. The Inquirer
Fun books to beguile lazy, sun-soaked days: This one isn't exactly a book to take to the beach, but it's great for any Shore home, or as a hostess gift. Historic Photos is exactly what the title says - a compilation of pictures depicting key moments in Jersey Shore history, like a brand new Lucy the Elephant, the aftermath of the 1927 fire in Ocean City; the brand new, and the pre-casino Atlantic City boardwalk. But it's the detailed captions that make it worth reading, and sharing.

Historic Photos of Jersey Shore is a coffee table book capturing the bygone times in hundreds of vintage, black and white photos. From the boardwalks to the amusements, the homes both lavish and modest, churches and public buildings, events and street scenes, it has it all.

This book is a charming time capsule, indispensable to historic restorationists as well as those of us for whom "down the shore" is an ingrained part of our lives and for whom its evolutions - its ups and downs - are fascinating for their own sake. This book, whether for a gift to a fellow shore lover or for one's own enjoyment, is an excellent chance to see how it all used to be.

The Jersey Shore in all its splendor

Lots of historical detail as well as great photos of the Jersey Shore. I was surprised at the diversity of images since I was expecting mostly beach scenes. I especially enjoyed the down to earth writing style of Mr. Czachowski. You can feel his love of the shore in his home state throughout the book. I highly recommend this to history buffs, naturalists, and people who have moved away from the state and are looking for a glance at what they might very well be missing.
