Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-8-Two compressed outlines. Both books start with some facts about early Native American civilizations and continue through the decades to the 1990s. There are no more than a few sentences devoted to any individual, and major events get no more than a few pages. The writing is clear, but there are two notable errors in Florida-the Gulf of Mexico coast is described as being the eastern one, and the wrong locations are given for the Calusa and Tegesta peoples. Captioned drawings and photographs, some in full color, appear throughout, adding some important information to the texts. However, appendix pictures of the state flag, seal, flower, bird, and tree are too small to show essential details. Although these titles are attractive and may prove convenient to report writers, most of the material in them can be found in general encyclopedias.-Marilyn Long Graham, Lee County Library System, Fort Myers, FL
