CHOICE
This edition contains major improvements...Recommended for libraries with strong Africana collections.

American Reference Books Annual
As good as the previous two editions were, the 3d edition is even better and much more comprehensive in its coverage and analysis...a superb introduction to the volume is provided, which pulls together all the major strands of entries into a coherent whole. This book is an excellent addition to the series.

Booknews
A new edition of the reference volume chronicling the history of Africa's Congo, an unstable state that has most recently begun to rebuild its economy after a period of political shifts from the right to the left. Co-author Decalo (U. of Florida) probes the history of Congo in an insightful introduction supplemented by a comprehensive dictionary providing concise descriptions of major figures in politics and culture, places, institutions, historical events, economy, and society. Additionally, a subject divided bibliography is supplied for researchers wishing to pursue further study. Includes maps, economic and budgetary data tables, and a chronology of events since Congo independence. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
