This is the first in-depth look at the musical and cultural develpment of Go Go Music in Washington, D.C.

Starting with Chuck Brown influencing and then battling Trouble Funk in the 70's, then onto Rare Essence and the Junkyard Band creating a standard form through the 80's, and the Backyard Band and TCB expanding on a new sub-genre for the 2000's.

This narrative, mostly written in a D.C. vernacular, highlights the musical steps that this local art form took over its first 30 years.

About the Author

Rahn Lewis came of age in tandem with Go Go music, first as a resident of Washington, D.C. and aspiring musician. Then ultimately as a fan and student of music in general and Go Go in particular.

He majored in History at the University of the District of Columbia and looks to the concise writing style of Georgetown's Carroll Quigley to be "the" standard form.
