Overview

From the "taming of the West" to the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, the portrayal of the past has become a battleground at the heart of American politics. What kind of history Americans should read, see, or fund is no longer merely a matter of professional interest to teachers, historians, and museum curators. Everywhere now, history is increasingly being held hostage, but to what end and why? In History Wars, eight prominent historians consider the angry swirl of emotions that now surrounds public memory. Included are trenchant essays by Paul Boyer, John W. Dower, Tom Engelhardt, Richard H. Kohn, Edward Linenthal, Micahel S. Sherry, Marilyn B. Young, and Mike Wallace.

When I bougt this trash was not aware it was a compendium of assays. What a bore as each one is a repetition of the other! All of them just a complain of the defeat of the Enola Gay exhibition by the progressive/radical leftist liberals (socialists?). Granted the use of atomic bombs on civilians is in itself a horrible action but it coulld have been part of another exhibit and the reasons for the decision made by Truman should not be questioned by this bunch of "historians" with a political agenda based on their political correct motivations...what about the deterrance one? For over 70 plus years and counting the atomic weapons have not been used by any country. The mockery and vitriol used by the authors and specially by Kohn and Wallace of conservatives and Republicans is simply repulsive. They even brougth in the NRA and the race issues...simply disgusting. Funny how they not even make one comment about the role of the Democrats in all wars: 1) Mexican American by Polk, 2) Spanish American by Cleveland, 3) WWI by Wilson, 4) WWII by FDR/Truman, 5) Korean by Truman, 6) Vietnam by Kennedy/Johnson. These so called historians have not credibility in my book. Shame on all them!
