All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Instead of following Stax/Volt's pattern and delivering an exhaustive box set containing all of their singles, Motown decided to limit their singles box, Hitsville USA: The Motown Singles Collection 1959-1971, to four discs that concentrated on the hits. What a piece of art!

It just makes you feel better, every time you hear it. Imagine that, no profanity and lyrics you could actually understand. It spoke of real life, not the fantasy world of drugs, bling, sex and death. But it still delivers. "Aint that pecular"...

    more from this reviewer

    Motown history

This is a great collection of Motown's most powerful (and fun) hits. There are a few songs that should have been added (and a few subtracted) but that does not hurt this collection at all. Be sure to hang on to the book that comes with the box because the songs are listed on each CD case without the artist's name beside it (so you will need the book to remember who did what).

    Early MOTOWN at its best......

Anyone raised on early Motown will love this collection -- whoever compiled this collection of early hits didn't miss anything. It's all here in one nice-looking box -- every last hit and treasure of the era. I'm particularly enjoying this because it has been an easy way to introduce my grandchildren to an era of American R and B to which they might otherwise not be exposed.

    Many Great Original Hits!

This was a real value for my Original Songs, Original Artists oldies collection. A few excess tracks that I've never heard or want to hear again, but to get so many great ones in 4 CD's is what I look for. Highly recommend this one if you like this genre.
