Editorial Reviews

Board of Directors, HVPOA - Clifford Johnson
If you were foolish enough to buy into a Home Owners Association (HOA) and you want to stay YOU NEED THIS BOOK! The advice provided is sound and comes with many examples of practical applications to most any situation you find yourself. Examples include paying what they demand ($2000 or less) all the way to taking them to court to protect the rights of yourself and your fellow home owners.
On the Commons Radio Show - Shu Bartholomew
Shelly Marshall and her neighbors have been through the HOA wringer, they kept notes and Shelly has written a terrific book that walks homeowners through the process of first, understanding the structure of the HOA, then giving excellent advice on how to resolve problems and avoid costly litigation and also how to handle going to court when all else fails. Shelly's book, complete with great illustrations, is a step by step guide on how to proceed through the legal quagmire: the HOA monster.

Meet the Author

Shelly Marshall didn't want to learn HOA law, how to fight a board of directors, or how not to make friends in your HOA--but she did. Actually she is a best selling author of self-help recovery books for addicts and alcoholics. Among her titles is the classic "Day By Day", "Young, Sober, & Free" and the more recent "Pocket Sponsor." You would think that working with addictions would be the tough job, but Ms Marshall says, Working with addicts is a calk walk compared with going up against a board of directors."

Her association, which was a David and Goliath type of battle, was eventually won. Shelly and 225 of her closet neighbors won the battle. She is now considered an advocate for homeowners rights and is working to help abolish as many associations as possible.
