Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
A lost astronaut comes back to earth embodied by a murder of crows. A demon roams the Pine Barrens seeking a perfect game of hide and seek. A mothman searches the world for the romance of rock and roll. In this new series, the creatures of nightmares are real, but a team of monster hunters is working very hard to cover them up in the most novel way possible: by exposing them as hoaxes on TV. While the concept of a team of monster hunters working to cover up supernatural events is inescapably reminiscent of BPRD comics (and countless others), the TV angle is an interesting twist, allowing Moreci and Seeley to create an atmosphere of mystery, while commenting on the absurdities of supernatural reality TV. The artwork changes with the aesthetic of each based on the story line. In a gritty post–Cold War spy story, the lines are heavy and anarchic; in a hilarious coda about a lonely mothman, it shifts to something reminiscent of the Sunday funnies. Overall Hoax Hunters: Book One is a promising start to a series that guarantees plenty of variety and humor mixed into its darker action. (Dec.)

The simplistic cover on this graphic novel doesn't even give you

The simplistic cover on this graphic novel doesn't even give you a glimpse into what the stories could be about, almost demanding that you pick it up and give it a thumbing through. (Or in my case, a few finger swipes across my Kindle screen)
Opening this book I can only describe with one sound, “ahhhhhhhhh”. You know that sound when something awesome happens and it's shining in all its glory; yeah that sound. The art between the covers is vibrant and brings each page to life as well as adding a nice element to the story line.
If you like the strange and bizarre coupled with graphic novels, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. It's a myriad of oddities all rolled into one. Hoax Hunters is a television reality show produced by a group of people with secret super powers. Much to the theme of Mythbusters and Men in Black, they travel the world trying to debunk the tall tales being told. While the world watches as they merely show people that everything is normal, while at the same time using their powers to cover up the instance. It is the perfect front to cover up all of the reports of the unknown and unnatural from those who shouldn't know of it. Somebodies got to protect us the things of legend right?
The Team is made up of four members, team leader, former FBI agent and second generation Hoax Hunter, Jack Lawson, Regan Tate who has telekinetic powers arising from a childhood incident, A walking zombie, Ken Cadaver (most appropriate), and Murder. Murder was an astronaut who was sucked through a space rift rendering him null and endowing his conscious to ,wait for it....., a murder of crows and apparently they live in his space suit.
The stories are written in such a way as to lack closure to some degree, which I only assume is because they will be reappearing in future editions. Makes sense to me. This is definitely a book for people who think outside the box and like to enjoy the quirky things in life, like myself. It's funny, at times down right comical, but at the same time maintains a level of suspense and action to appease to a broader audience.
This is definitely one I would like a hard copy of to add to my graphic novel collection and would suggest to readers who just know their neighbor is a werewolf.
