Between 1976 and 1981 Gene Hochman published in four parts, a cataloging of American makers and their types and brands of playing cards. This expanded volume includes hundreds of new listings, detailing decks from the late 1700s to the early 1930s. Card entries are grouped by manufacturer, with information about the manufacturer provided and small b&w illustrations of the cards. Outstanding examples are shown in a color gallery. The book is also available in a clothbound limited edition of 500 copies; and a price guide is available. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
