Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Hockey is the official national winter sport of Canada and, it is appropriate therefore, that it is the central focus of a series of board books entitled "My First NHL Book." The NHL league is comprised of both Canadian and U.S. teams. For kids who are already fans, this book will add another dimension by highlighting some of their favorite teams. For those new to the sport, they will learn a variety of terms and objects associated with the sport. There is only one Stanley Cup and it is the one coveted by all of the hockey teams. Each game has two hockey nets and while there may be many hockey sticks, only three are shown. There are four referees and the league began with only six teams, two of which are Canadian. The rest of the numbers feature helmets, goalies, Zamboni, whistles, players, and hockey pucks The closing spread recaps all of the numbers. This type of book would work in classes for older students where sturdy books with more adult content are useful. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
