More About This Book

Overview

Reminiscent of off-beat writing in the styles of Tom Robbins, Carl Hiaasen, Joe R. Lansdale and Christopher Moore, comes a timely novel that will appeal to the many readers attracted to those successful authors.

The zany characters in Hog Lick, AR are drawn together by several unusual situations that are oddly affected by the contemporary events of September 11th. Be assured that the humor is done in good taste.

Smuggling illegal aliens to work in the poultry industry, converting an airport metal detector for finding unauthorized theater treats, running a private speed trap, reclaiming of an abandoned town and scheming to profitably process chicken manure are among the antics of a cast of characters that includes considerable Arkansas local color and a Middle -Eastern motel/convenience store manager. Mayhem, murder, missteps and an FBI terrorist investigation join with the silliness and homespun philosophy to round out the plot.

“Outrageous,” says J. S. Greene, one of North Lima’s grittiest characters
“Nobody writes like this guy!” Howard Bradley, canine specialty entrepreneur
“Runs like a racehorse… You won’t want it to end,” James Lowery, AR Fishing Guide
“Might need to spell ‘quirky’ with two ‘k’s,” Roger ‘Tuna’ Livingston, Master Recycler

Wit and grit combine for a bowl of surreal soup that boggles the mind, livens the spirit and tickles the soul. All three thumbs up!

    Interesting........very interesting

After the first five chapters established the characters, this book read like a roaring locomotive. Couldn't put it down. Full of political satire, (I know which party the author is!) I was wishing it could have continued on for another 100 pages. An easy, enjoyable read. Don't miss it.

Ain't Had So Much Fun Since The Hogs Ate My Little Brother

A wild ride! Funny, well-paced and tongue deeply in cheek, this book was a fun read. It reminds me of early Tom Robbins with the disjointed turns and philisophical-politcal commentary. The plot thickens around the exploits of a band of Northwest Arkansas misfits who have a pension for trouble. Some of the minor characters are thinly disguised parodies of folk, famous and infamous. Some of the references may be known only to local residents. Light and easy. A good traveling book. Read it and pass to a friend in need of entertainment.

    I'm hungry for more

An appetizing 310 course creation lightly salted with reality, heavily peppered with 'tongue in cheek' humor, served on a bed of home spun philosophy and garnished with several twists of fate...Deelicious, can't wait for the next meal.

Until I read the whole book, I was put off by the treatment of the character,Tinky. In these times of political correctness, gritty commentary walks a fine line. Overall, the book good entertainment.

    An OUTSTANDING READ!!!

This book has more ups and downs than a roller-coaster. The characters are unforgettable and witty. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it a 1

The scales stuck in red like a salamander in heat. The pages of this mini-tome [many blank pages] are destined to protract the work into the vestigages of a new cult classico of the American heart. Three thumbs up and the tornenados be damned! Eat red meat, I say!
