Children's Literature - Traci Avalos
This picture book describes the many different types of homes that animals occupy. It begins by illustrating different types of homes that people live in and then moving into why animals also need different types of habitats to be comfortable. It discusses habitats such as prairies, woods, tropical forests, and deserts. It also describes specific animal homes such as caves, trees, dens, nests, and tunnels. Some specific animals, such as beavers and groundhogs, are discussed along with their habitats. A few insects and marine life are also covered. There are vibrant photographs to help explain the text, as well as many comprehension questions interspersed throughout. While great for beginning readers, this would also work well with foreign language learners of all ages learning Spanish, as the sentence structure is simple and the photographs are not overly childish. It is written fully in Spanish, and includes a vocabulary word index with pictures. Reviewer: Traci Avalos
