Like its cousin, Vol. 2, MCA Special Products' Holiday Collection, Vol. 3 has a truly weird artist roster -- the typical Christmas album does not feature John Schneider "Joy to the World", Henry Mancini "Away in a Manger", Jon Anderson "Where Were You", Dionne Warwick "Winter Wonderland", Spinal Tap "We Three Kings", Micky Dolenz "O Little Town of Bethlehem", Daryl Coley another reading of "Away in a Manger", Stryper "O Come All Ye Faithful", Tony Orlando "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", Jimmy Stewart "A Christmas Reading" and Ann Wilson "Auld Lang Syne". Clearly, this is not meant for everyone -- actually, I have no idea who the target audience is, since it's much too straight-faced for kitsch. Still, it must be said that the disc winds up being rather entertaining, albeit in a weird way. It's the kind of record to put on at a holiday party where things aren't what they seem to be.
