Lou Rawls released several Christmas recordings in his long distinguished career, this one stands among the best of them. Recorded with a swinging big band and released in 2004, this is a fully realized project, not just a collection pasted together from previous recordings. Rawls' singing is typically powerful and the arrangements (by pianist Mark Adams Watkins) show off both vocalist and the excellent band. "Joy To The World" in particular benefits from the treatment given by the assembled talent. Jazz fans looking for a holiday lift should get a kick out of this as well as folks who enjoy seasonal music performed with a little extra umph! Was this review helpful?
