Editorial Reviews

Steph Beck
Holly’s Big Bad Santa was a great combination of sweet, maturing and some slightly naughty play. ... I give Starla Kaye’s wonderful Christmas story four candy canes and can’t think of anyone who doesn’t mind a little tiny bit of kink who wouldn’t love it.

Meet the Author

Live, love, laugh...such simple words, but words I take to heart. There are never enough hours in my day to do even half of the things I would like to do. Maybe I try to bite off too big of chunks of what I want to do, what I need to do, and of what others expect me to do. But no matter how crazy my life gets, I try to incorporate my words to live by (live, love, laugh) into each day.

Beyond my family, I enjoy traveling anywhere, at anytime. I've been fortunate enough to see so many interesting places over my life, places I've read about or heard about. I've been in the jungle of Mexico and looked up at a Mayan pyramid. I've walked inside the partial ruins of ancient castles in England, Scotland, and Ireland. I've stood at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower and looked up. I've ridden on ferry taxis on the Grand Canal in Venice. I've walked along the beach edges in California, Texas, Florida, and France. I've been to New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., the Grand Canyon, and so many more places. But I will never see enough. I will always hunger for one more trip.

All of my many adventures and observations of people and places help my writer's imagination. I'm filled with 'what ifs' and ideas for yet more characters. My writing, too, leads me on many adventures. I dabble with romances of many sub-genres: contemporary, historical Western, medieval, sci-fi, paranormal, and Regency. As with never having enough of traveling, I will never have enough of writing.

As a published author in e-books and Print-On-Demand books, I have published 20 novels, 22 novellas, 6 short stories, and 6 anthologies with various publishers.

I also write as S. K. Fero and Skylar Faye.

    Could have been better.....

    2.5 / 3

Jared Danville is returning to Danville, KS after being gone for 15 years. Holly Jacobs, Jared's old flame, is planning on moving away from Danville for a new life in California. One of Jared's purposes for returning is to see if he can convince Holly otherwise. Will Holly be amenable?

I really can't say I cared much for this novella. I wanted to and I did like the premise of Jared coming home to make amends - with his family and with Holly.

What made me really dissatisfied with the story is that Jared and Holly's relationship - or at least the re-kindling of it - seems forced. Jared has come back because he is re-evaluating his life and yet still acts like an (in my opinion) arrogant horse's backside towards Holly in an "You had feelings for me, still do, I'll use them for all they are worth to win you over" sort of way. Meanwhile, Holly - who is set on moving to California and starting a new life - constantly acts against her independent character (again, in my opinion) and comes across almost twins of herself - an independent woman and as someone who is willing to give up that independence in submission to her man.

Maybe the story would have worked better for me if it was longer or if there was a longer time frame that allowed for greater plausibility for re-establishing Jared's and Holly's relationship. As it stands, the story just didn't gel for me.
