Only in L.A. would a school internship involve celebrity guest stars and hitting your mark. Acting is not my thing (can you say shy spasm?) . . . but mysteries are. I’m working as an extra on my sister’s latest movie, and legend has it that the mansion we’re filming in is haunted. With disappearing paintings, a glowing ghost, and Eva acting possessed (by love?), I’m starting to believe the stories are true!
Chills. Thrills. Things that go bump in the night. Is my jinx on overdrive or have I stepped into a real-life horror flick?

Jessica is a shy thirteen-year-old girl who investigates mysterious occurrences while working as an extra in a movie. She is the sister of Eva, a teen television star, who also has a cameo in this film. The movie is being filmed in a supposedly haunted house, and strange happenings occur on the set. Paintings go missing. Actresses mysteriously get injured. Jessica has a reputation for being a bad omen, so she initially avoids the actors and tries to stay out of the way. However, the mystery on the set beckons, and she is able to use her keen detective skills to solve it. The fifth book of the "Hollywood Sisters" series, this book combines mystery and knowledge about filmmaking. However, the background storylines are geared toward adult issues, such as alcoholism, infidelity, and promiscuity. Additionally, the story progresses slowly and can easily lose reader interest. When dialog occurs, it is often difficult to determine who is speaking. The book presents topics inappropriate for pre-teens and early teens, and the story itself does not hold the reader's interest, as it is often slow moving. Reviewer: Sarah Knight
