Overview

Kierin McKendry is indentured to J. Talbot, a ruthless saloon owner, until Clay Holt wins her in a rigged poker game. When Clay tries to collect his winnings, he's attacked by Talbot's men and badly injured.

Clay never expected Keirin to take him to the wagon train on which he was due to leave, or that she would lie about being his wife and nurse him back to health while on the trail.

But, Keirin isn't interested in a man consumed by avenging his wife's murder. She's pursuing her father, who sold her for a ticket to the California gold fields.

However, posing as a married couple, spending night after night together, is fanning Keirin and Clay into a different kind of blinding passion that's blazing the way for Talbot, who will kill to have what's his.

    A Wonderful Western Romance!

First time reading this author but it won't be the last. Loved the descriptions of the western landscape and felt I was there listening to the rain pelting the covered wagon, soaked to the skin and shivering, or sweating over the fire cooking a meal. I loved the hero and heroine and all the secondary characters and they were all very well thought out, to play their part in the story. This is a wonderful romance with a little suspense. I have a few very favorite authors and I will be adding this one to my list. JudyE

A gorgeously written Historical Western Romance featuring a smar

A gorgeously written Historical Western Romance featuring a smart, resourceful and loyal heroine and the strong, swoon-worthy alpha male who falls in love with her despite his best efforts.

The Old West setting is  beautifully evoked, from lawless frontier towns to the trials and tribulations faced by wagon train pioneers.  The supporting characters are sharply drawn, each one of them a fully realized dimensional character in their own rights.

There's action and danger and adventure - never a dull moment!  And of course, a heartfelt romance that makes the reader sigh happily when the book, sadly, comes to an end.  Ms. Ankrum is a highly skilled author and I very much look forward to her future books. I read a LOT of romance, and it's rare that I give a book five stars. However, I highly recommend this book to everyone - well, everyone except silly old men who know little about this genre and even less about what constitutes good writing.  Life is truly too short to give them a second thought.

    It was OK.......................................................

    It was OK.........................................................
Truly,  I like a good virgin that works in a brothel story as well as the next gal.  Bur the story wandered off  the path several times and the villain seemed almost cartoonish.  In fact I'm not surprised that the author had been an actor because most of the characters in the book seemed like the kind you would have found in an old John Wayne movie. Inexperienced army officer at fort, beautiful Indian maiden, rugged mountain man, French trapper running trading post and last but not least--the man in the white had. Not really a bad read ---just a little dull at times.

    Loved this

Living in the west myself, I always enjoy a good love story set here. Ankrum certainly doesn't disappoint. I finished this delightful book wondering if we might hear more from Clay and Kierin down the road!

    Good Book

This was a really good book, that kept you going from beginning to end. I really took you back in time. The story was sweet and full of what a romance should be.
