Overview

The Holy Bible (King James Version)

This is the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, traditionally the principal English translation. The KJV is considered one of the masterpieces of early modern English literature, although most modern readers find the language a bit dated and occasionally opaque. There have been numerous successive English translations, many of which have borrowed heavily from the KJV.

The Bible is the most important book in the history of Western civilization, and also the most difficult to interpret. It has been the vehicle of continual conflict, with every interpretation reflecting passionately held views that have affected not merely religion, but politics, art, and even science.

    Best Nook Bible

I had the opportunity to "buy" several Bibles for the nook on the in store demo unit, and this was by far the best of them. What truly distinguished this Bible from the others was not the translation, but rather the digital implementation. Using the Go To feature on the nook allowed one to quickly browse to any book of the Bible. The first pages of each book were links to the individual chapters, allowing for quick and easy navigation. Furthermore, the footnotes are implemented as links that worked quickly and easily to provide the reader more insight into the text.

The navigation is the truly distinguishing feature. Other Bibles I bought either had every chapter of every book in the "Go To" list rendering it unfeasible to actually find anything, and one Bible actually didn't have anything in the "Go To" navigation. This Bible wins hands down for ease of navigation.

    Downloaded and works great!

I had been scouting good e-versions of the NIV Bible translation and this one seemed to be the best. The only catch was that no one appeared to be successfully unlocking it. I was holding off on buying it until I knew that someone got it to work, but gave in last night and decided I may as well buy it and see if it worked. Lo and behold - no problems whatsoever with mine. I bought it, downloaded in seconds, and I've been able to view any passage I want. I like the easy navigation and the ability to search for a word. (i.e. If I want to find passages about Abraham, I can search for "Abraham.")

It would be nice to have a quicker way to get around the Table of Contents for references, since I have to scroll through each number in order and can't skip around. For example, if I want to look up Psalms 119:125, I would have to scroll under "OT Books" to "Psalms," and then under "Chapters" from "1," "2," "3," "4,"....down to "119" for the chapter, and THEN on the "Verses" screen from "1," "2," "3," "4,"....down to "125" for the verse. It works, and it is fairly quick, but it would be nice to have a search feature that could go directly to the exact reference.

Also, I would love it if there were quick links from cross-referenced verses. Maybe I just haven't figured it out yet, but so far when I get a cross-reference, I can see what the reference is, but I would have to go back to the TOC and get to the new reference in the above-mentioned way.

All in all, I LOVE having an NIV Bible on my nook, and I can't help but wonder if it would have worked a couple weeks ago had I tried it. Worth the purchase and I'm definitely happy with it.

Good as a book and not for research

If you are just going to keep reading straight through like a book then you are fine with this version. Much like everyone one else, I was not happy with searching for verses or words. So far, I have not found a superior option.

Disappointed it wasn't formatted for easy navigation

I don't have to comment on the content of this book -- I think the fact that it's the Bible speaks for itself -- but I was disappointed that this version was not properly formatted with index links. I can't jump through the books to the one I want, then to chapter and verse.

    It doesn't work!!!!!

It is a great translation and I have used it for years. I was looking forward to having it on my nook, as I have it on my kindle. However, it does NOT work on the nook. There is no navigation to get to any book, chapter or verse. Very frustrating.

Works for me! Try to update it, or download newest sample.

I just downloaded the sample of every bible on this site, and this is one of the best ones there is. There is a Go to option on the bottom touch pad, in which you select your book of the bible. Then from there you are taken to a few pages with all the chapters listed on them, which you use the up/down touch pad arrows to select the chapter. From there it is as easy as turning a couple pages to get to your desired verse.

I recommend you try this out, because like i said it works fine, there must have been problems with earlier versions. --only downside is it can be a bit slow when first opening.

as of 11/15/09 book is corrupt

I purchased this 2 weeks ago, and BN has not yet fixed the problem with the download (I get a message-"Unlocking failed because of an unknown error. This book may be corrupt" ), and so will be crediting my account.

GREAT BOOK - Works Well With My nook!

Prior to purchasing this Bible for my nook, I read the previous reviews and they were stating that there was a problem unlocking the bible. I downloaded the sample, liked it, and then purchased the book. It works great. I had the bible on my iPhone because I don't like being in church stammering when finding verses. However, the screen on my iPhone is very small. This is perfect! I had no "unlocking" problems and it is so easy to navigate to find verses.

Difficult to use on your Nook

This bible is very difficult to navigate using your Nook. I don't recommend it if you're trying to use it at church. It's too time consuming to navigate between bible verses, especially if they are in different books.

    Nook crasher

This Bible did exactly what the other reviewers said it would. It crashed my Nook and now I am trying to fix it. I deleted it off Nook and am going to try to re-download it but if that fails I would like to get my money back but am not sure how. Wish there were a better NIV bible for the Nook.

    I Also Recommend:

    Understanding the Bible.

After searching for a long time for a new bible, I find this Bible easy to read and easy to navigate. I use it along with the Halley's Bible Handbook. I am really happy to finally understand the meaning of the Bible.

    Terrible! My Iphone is Faster!

I use the NIV, but I can access chapters faster with a paper version or my iPhone. The Search feature is terrible and by the time I find the passage the Pastor is referencing....He's on to another passage. Got to be a better one than this...ABSOLUTELY Terrible!!

This version made my nook crash not once, but three times!

Enough is enough. Too bad B&N doesn't allow returns of ebooks. Books like this are probably the reason. When it did load properly, it took a VERY long time to turn a page. This verison is impossible to navigate. Like one other reviewer, I gave it a star because I had to. DON'T BUY IT!

I AGREE WITH THE FIRST REVIEW. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR JUMPING AROUND FROM CHAPTER TO CHAPTER. AND IT FREEZES MY NOOK TOO!

    Needs Improvement

I also downloaded a Bible to my Android powered smart phone. The navigation on that is far superior. If this Bible took full advantage of the touch screen portion, it would be outstanding. Instead, you have to navigate like you would on a Kindle, only without the shortcut line buttons. Wait for an improved version that was created specifically for the Nook and its touchscreen.

    Digital Disappointment

The digital version of this Bible is so slow to open, turn pages and find a different reference that it is almost useless. On my Nook, it sometimes takes over a minute just to turn a page. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes just to navigate to a specific passage.

There has to be a better Bible for the Nook.

    NOOK FREEZER

I purchased this bible for my nook and it freezes my Nook everytime I open it and try to navigate through the chapters. No stars from me since I cannot even open it to read it, but it looks like I am required to at least give it one.

Does not work as a ebook study Bible

This down load works only as a novel type of reading and not as a study Bible. Works better on PC as the higlighted areas are functional on PC but not on your nook. On your PC you can search for say John 3:16 and it will go to it in a few seconts, no way of doing it on a nook. Chapter search and book search does not work on nook. Also I could not get to the New Testament to open either on my nook.
Do not buy it for reading or using as a study Bible or for church and Sunday School work.

    Don't buy this ebook

Very frustrating to use. I've tried to get beyond the table of contents a few times which is a chore. I haven't successfully used the "find" feature. I wish I had not bought this Bible

Unable to unlock this book on my Nook

Can't really review this as I have been unable to open the file on my Nook after multiple attempts. It is failing when I try to unlock it. I want a refund or the problem fixed.
