This was an enjoyable book overall with good plot twists. Many esoteric references and somewhat archaic language made the book an interesting change from more modern mysteries. The eccentric Gervase Fen is a little much but his church musician counterpart is more sympathetic, and the story is told from Geoffrey's point of view. Would recommend this book to the British mystery lover, who might also enjoy Edmund Crispin's Love Lies Bleeding (I liked that one better, actually).
