Overview

A tale of retirement. A fresh start. Is this for me? There have been many stories told about what happens when a member of the military is overseas during a war. There have been several stories told about what has happened to young soldiers upon their return from combat. These all focus on home-comings which unfortunately had some type of grief involved. HOME AT LAST looks at a normal home-coming for a sailor who had been away for an extended period of time. The story highlights the sailor’s indoctrination back into normal civilian life. Things that are normal run-of-the-mill occurrences which we never think about can seem strange to someone who has not seen them for a while, if even then.
All of the events mentioned in the story actually happened. Thankfully, they did not all happen to one man as the story depicts.

Meet the Author

A life long member of the military the author has seen members leave active service for sixty years. This story came about when the author talked to many friends whose fathers or they themselves left military life and had to become part of a life style that had moved on while they were away. Things we take for granted are not normal to people who haven't used them.
