I am a full time college student and needed a book stand while typing notes into my computer. I had looked at cheap ones, but when I came across this one I was impressed (at least from the information on it). It arrived today and I have to say even though it was a little spendier, it's worth every penny! It's got the extensions that you can pull out or up and I was afraid it wouldn't hold my big, wide textbooks, but it holds them perfectly! If you are in a need of a sturdy book holder, this is the one to buy! I also often work after dark into the evening hours and the light is a big help! I just love it and I highly recommend it!!

I bought this book holder as a gift for my dad; he had been looking for a book stand for quite some time. After trying one that was too small for him (the "book hug," which I ended up keeping) and one which snapped in half as soon as we put a book on it (the "book cradle" by zelgo), I came across this expensive but sturdy-looking book stand and decided to give it a try. I have mostly nice things to say about it. It seems sturdy enough (as it should be considering the price), the light illuminates very well and has two settings of intensity which is great, and it's quite adjustable in tilt, height, and width. Which brings me to this one problem: you can't adjust the THICKNESS of the little ledge that holds the pages in place! It's not even 1 1/2" thick which is a big draw back considering most books for which one might want to use this product are actually quite thick. We tried it with a 2 1/2" book and it worked great - as long as we had the book open exactly in the middle. So much for the first and last few chapters of the book. Anyway, if the ledge was twice as deep with a spring-loaded adjustable bar (something like the adjustable bar that holds the led light in place), or even individual spring-loaded legs as page-holders, this product would serve its purpose much better.

I am a grad student and sometimes I spend hours/days at a time bent over textbooks studying and I was starting to get neck pains. This stand is great for when I need to spend several minutes digesting each page I read. The thickness of the stand is about 1.5" - this is large enough to accommodate a textbook when it is open BUT you have to lift it up to turn each page. Therefore I only use the stand when I am really reading the pages (i.e. spending several minutes on each page - not flipping through the textbook like a maniac). Another con for this stand is that if you are using it for large textbooks you will not be able to utilize the LED light. The stand is about 8" high and most of my textbooks are at least 10". But I didn't buy this stand for the light, I actually purchased it to save my poor neck! And I am VERY satisfied with it.

This device allows me to read almost anywhere. The more natural appearance of the light allows reading to be an easier task, than trying to twist around until the light hits your book right. I also use this in conjunction with my e-reader device, since they are not backlit, this light allows the text to be easily read. The base expands both horizontally and vertically this in conjunction with the mobile arms of the light itself allows for almost any size book to be lit using this device. I would not put an encyclopedia on it, but other than that this is a versatile device. I would recommend this device for people whom are trying to read in low light situations, or simply if you are reading indoors. The natural light creates a more pleasant reading experience overall.

I grabbed this one along with a few big books that I knew I was going to have troubble getting through unless I had a good stand and a reading light. Well, here is both in one. "Good" stand and "Great" light. The stand's little front try thing does not fold down, extend, or come off making it horribly difficult to turn pages unless it is a very small book ( so I ended up cutting it off ) The light. the whole "HD READING!" on the front is actually true. I can really read my books with very little if any eye strain. I do wear glasses and have since high school. The problem is this thing DRINKS battery juice. If I was going just off the 3 AA batteries I would end up going though 3 a day at least. It does have a saving grace! It does have a plug for an AC adapter! However... it does not come with an AC adapter? I had to go rummaging though my "old parts bin" to find a 5v charger to work with it. So... I'm not super knowledgeable about these sorts of stands, but if you are willing to bring your own AC adapter and cut the bottom lip off then it's a 5/5 star stand. Out of the box, it's basically a gag-gift for someone who has bad vision.

VERY HAPPY WITH PRODUCT!!!!! I purchased this bookstand light to use with my needlework hobby. I often go places where the light is not very good and I have lights to assist me seeing the needlework while I'm stitching but not for the graph. This lighted stand is perfect - plus I can continue stitching should I loose power. I do wish it would have come with an adaptor - but I'll make do.

Very pleased with this product and it's bright lighting for late-night reading. I like that it is being battery operated and is so light weight.

stand is not thick enough for books greater than 3/4"
