Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Young readers will enjoy this colorful book all about homes. Many different types of houses are photographed and described, introducing the reader to the wide variety of materials used in construction. Homes made out of mud, brick, concrete, thatch, snow, grass, and leaves are presented. Houses on water, stilts, and in trees are discussed. There will be no question in the reader's mind that places like Russia, the Dominican Republic, Africa, Malaysia, Asia, and Mongolia build houses differently than the United States! The subject of homelessness is briefly discussed, but in a non-threatening manner. This book is best suited for the preschool student, as the text is simply presented and the photographs dominate the pages. It is a great resource for units on families, communities, and cultural diversity. There is a table of contents, index, and glossary included. This book is part of the "Starters" series. 2004, Smart Apple Media, Ages 2 to 5.
