Who doesn’t want to shrink their carbon footprint, save money, and eat homegrown food whenever possible? Even readers who are very much on the grid will embrace this large, fully illustrated guide on the basics of living the good, clean life. It’s written with country lovers in mind—even those who currently live in the city.

    Not What I Expected

I expected a book that would be a great reference manual...but it only fits that bill if you like to look at pictures. The photos are great, but the information is greatly lacking! I'm afraid this is more of a coffee table book than something that will actually get used.

Poorly edited, lacking in detail where it counts

Considering that this book is simply a cobbled together edition of material from other sources (albeit with beautiful photographs), I expected better editing. For example, the "instructions" for building structures from bird houses to stables are often incomplete (literally, the last part of a sentence may just be missing!!) This volume seems to have been thrown together hastily to take advantage of the growing interest in sustainable and self-sufficient living. I was very disappointed.

    Excellent Resource For Do-It-Yourselfers

Homesteading is extremely relevant, as we pursue our efforts to adopt a more "green" lifestyle on a worldwide scale. The reader will find a host of useful ideas in this book, ranging from growing your own food, canning fruits and vegetables, smoking meats, designing and erecting wind turbines, the art of keeping bees, constructing poultry houses and even solar and thermal heating systems. Photographs and designs will spark the reader's imagination and, hopefully, lead to a better and cleaner Earth for us all.

    Love the book!

Looking through this book makes me want to DIY all the time! I think the book is very inspirational to begin doing things yourself and becoming self supporting.

    Good For The Beginner

The book is okay for someone just getting started in Homesteading. The drawback is that it is very long drawn out and boring at times. Better to read during long winter months
