This is the second of the "Tales" that I have read and I think this one was just as good as the first. Once again we get to see side characters from the main novel, before they've encountered our main characters. As I said about the last "Tales" story, I think these are definitely more appreciated by those who are already fans of the series. That doesn't mean those unfamiliar with the series won't enjoy them, but it's hard to understand the broad scope of the series world through just these short stories. I would say though, that the "Tales" are a good starting point for someone who is interested in reading the entire Noble Dead series. It offers a nice small taste, without committing to a full novel. Plus three of the "Tales" take place before Dhampir even starts, so for those who like chronology, these would definitely be a good place to start.
