Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
Like most little boys, Charles loves puppies. Charles' family has often acted as foster parents for dogs that are waiting to be adopted. They have spent many hours training puppies and playing with puppies. Even though Charles' mom is more of a cat person, she too loves puppies. But when Honey, the bouncy yellow Labrador, enters their lives, everyone is mesmerized by the little bundle of fur. Charles has an older friend named Harry who knows some kids that cannot walk and are confined to wheelchairs. Although healthy in every other way, they must use their wheelchairs to get around. When Charles meets Noah, a boy his own age who is handicapped, he is catapulted into an adventure that will teach him about keeping promises. Charles' sister Lizzie, his mother, and his father will all be along for the ride. This is a delightful story about how even young children can make a difference in the world around them. It is a worthy choice for young readers who always gravitate toward stories about pets. Author Miles has written a delightful series of books featuring different breeds of dogs. This is a series that will prove beneficial to the language arts curriculum in the lower elementary and kindergarten levels. Reviewer: Joyce Rice
