Honkytonk Gelato: Travels through Texas

Honkytonk Gelato: Travels through Texas

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
This book describes in an easy, chatty style the knockabout adventures of an Englishman wandering through Texas in a rented car. It is by no means an ordinary travel guide. At the end, one realizes that one has learned a good deal more about the true flavor of the land, the strengths and weaknesses of the people, than could be extracted from a dozen books of travel. Texas springs out of the pages as something at once primitive and progressivea huge canvas daubed with strong colors. Livestock auctions and beauty pageants; homecoming parades and chili cook-offs; Stetson hats and snakeskin boots; politicians and performers: the whole glittering panorama is presented without censure and without commendation. A delightful potpourri of facts and impressions, entertaining and instructive. A.J. Anderson, Graduate Sch. of Library & Information Science, Simmons Coll., Boston
