It took me a little bit to figure out the characters. Basically it is about three friends from kindergardent to adult hood. The high school football hero (Paul) marries Dana, while Ben believes all is well with them. Paul signs up for the Army goes to war and dies, but not until he extracts a promise from Ben that he will take care of Dana for him. Ben has loved Dana always and Dana is hiding a secret about her marriage to Paul. The whole book is about Ben trying to take care of Dana, while trying to get her to look at him as a man who loves her. The town wants make a statue showing the Hero Paul, Dana really doesn't want to because to her he was no hero, just a glory hound enabled by the town and especially by Ben. The busy body neigbor thinks Dana should never remarry and should live in the memory of Paul like she did her dead husband from WWII. It takes until the last two chapters for everyone to get what they want. It took me awhile to read because there was so much going on and you just wanted Dana to speakup (you kinda wanted to tell her enough already, just get in bed with Ben) Been just took it slow and easy with Dana so she could come to her own conclusions. In the end it was worth it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
