Overview

If you ask the confident and snarky skater girl, and she's in the mood to share, she'll tell you her name is Cat. She might even tell you that she's hooked on graffiti, 80s movies, and having fun-the riskier the better. Cat will share a good time with you, but she won't ever trust you enough to share her heart. It's protected by secrets and she'd like to keep it that way.

Cat knows one thing for certain: Love isn't really her thing.

If you ask the confident and rich pretty boy, he might tell you his name is Huck. He might even tell you he loves a challenge and is used to getting his way. He won't tell you that his life is a mess because he risked his heart by trusting the wrong girl. Huck is ready for a change, he just wasn't ready to get hooked on someone like Cat.

Huck knows one thing for certain: Love hasn't done him any favors, but Cat just might be worth the risk.

Cat and Huck think a one-night stand seems harmless, but when all the little secrets they didn't share turn out to be toxic truths, they realize how easily a one-night stand (or a few) could ruin everything.

The thing is, you can be ruined in more than one way. Once you're HOOKED, what wouldn't you risk for the chance at more?

Meet the Author

The first thing Christine does when she's getting ready to read a book is to crack the spine in at least five places. She wholeheartedly believes there is no place as comfy as the pages of a well-worn book. She's addicted to buying books, reading books, and writing books. Books, books, books. She also has a weakness for adventure, inappropriate humor, and coke (the caffeine-laden bubbly kind). Christine is from Forest Hill, Maryland where she lives with her husband, three kids, and her library of ugly spine books.

This book takes you on a journey! You get introduced to Cat a skater chick who's very independent and guarded. Paired with her best friend and roommate Jay who's the complete opposite. Then you get introduced to Huck the very good looking guy who happens to meet Cat and Jay at the beach. Sparks fly when Huck and Cat finally meet and go out. But then sparks also fly when they met their Alter Egos Cate and William. This book will take you high and low as you read why Cat is the way she is and Huck's devotion to pursue her. It does deal with hard topics as cancer. This book was well written and even thought it's book one of a series it's a stand-alone book.

Reviewed by Sarah Lowry for Readers' Favorite Hooked by Christine Manzari follows the developing romance between Cat and Huck. Cat is a skater girl and an amazing graphic designer; she loves to share a good time with a man, but love is a fairytale she doesn’t believe in. It would require her to allow herself to be vulnerable and to give up control. Huck is a pretty boy who loves photography, being in control, and is a workaholic. Cat is not his type nor is Huck her type, yet they find themselves inexplicably drawn to one another despite their differences. Cat insists that they not share personal information and just have a good time. However, when tragedy strikes in Cat’s life, her inability to get close might just push away the one man she needs the most. Hooked by Christine Manzari is a romance full of laughs and tears. Cat is an independent, snarky woman that I loved right away. I’m a sucker for a strong female character, and Cat did not disappoint me. Huck is a pretty boy with a good heart, which made him easy to fall in love with. The characters are well written and both grow throughout the story. I loved that the point of view was from both characters because I love to be able to identify with both of the main characters. Hooked had complex characters as well as a complex storyline; there were several layers of obstacles that the characters, particularly Cat, must overcome before they can have their happily ever after. This was a wonderful story, and I highly recommend giving it a read.

Cat has the kind of life many young women would be jealous of. She is a graphic designer, skateboarder, graffiti artist and has a gay BFF. She is also beautiful, feisty and doesn’t believe in love! Instead of ignoring the guy who spends the morning watching her workout she agrees to a date. We cannot help but miss the fact that despite Huck’s obvious stalker tendencies, the atmosphere between the pair is sexually charged. As the we read further Christine Manzari changes the tone of the story. We realise that this is not going to be a straightforward love story and that Cat and Huck are going to have to deal with their own drama before they can finally be together. Generally a character with Cat’s tough exterior be difficult to connect with, but Christine Manzari allows us to see her confusion, anger, denial and grief as she cares for her mother. Christine Manzari is sensitive, yet clearly knowledgeable about cancer, its treatment and the resulting side effects; because of this we invest our emotions in the story. Hooked’s narrative incorporates both character’s points of view, helping us to understand their individual feelings and motivations. Whilst Cat is pre-occupied with her mother’s illness, Huck simply wants to convince her that he is genuine, but I think that he seems fairly one-dimensional. Hooked is a promising debut from the author and it is a book which will be popular with readers of the New Adult Contemporary Romance genre.
