Good read...but way too many typos!

I downloaded this sample to my new Nookcolor, because I love to get into a series. I think the story might be really great...the sample was very short, but intriguing. The very few pages I read and the premise makes me think I will like it. I get the impression it will be very light reading--not something that takes a lot of concentration. I was impressed that in the few pages I read, there was no profanity, and likely I won't have to skim my way out of sex "scenes". So I think this will be interesting, but reasonably clean. However, I was amazed that in about 4 or 5 short pages of the sample, there were so many typos--mostly words run together without spaces. I found that to be exceedingly distracting--so much so that even though this is not a "deep" read, I had to keep going back to what I'd read because I kept thinking about the typos. Possibly, since I am new to downloadable e-books, I may find they are all done in the same way? But that will probably force me into some sort of professional help for my OCD grammar issues! LOL!

    Disappointed

Hooked on Murder is the first novel in Betty Hechtman's crochet mystery series. I wish that I could say I loved it but, sadly, I was bored from page one. The characters were not memorable. None had any bad habits or bad luck that would make a character interesting. The pace was slooooow. I think the plot moved 3 times, every 80 pages. Most of the dialogue had to do with crochet stitches and while I am a crocheter, this was not entertaining. Maybe the author will get better with the next book.

    Loved it!

This is the first book I read with my nook. For anyone who loves to crochet and likes a mystery, this book is a quick read with characters that are similar to the Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. Looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

    Nice entertaining read

I purchsed this book because I'm a crochet addict and there are rarely any books or media dealing with crochet (it's all knitting these days). I really liked it, regardless of the crochet aspect. It's a nice little mystery with no foul language or behaviour, it includes a crochet pattern and a couple of recipes in the back of the book, and I'm definitely buying the rest of the series!

    Crochet

An ok book. Very easy read. No real surprises but fun. If you want light reading and a mystery with a laugh this will fit the bill. Nice easy pattern also as a bonus.

    Hooked for Sure

This book along with others by Ms. Hectman will have you wanting to read more. Her characters are interesting and the story line is good. It keeps you going that you don't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and finished it within days...reading on the subway! what I enjoy are the receipes and patterns at the end which seems to be getting more popular with authors who write about knitting, crocheting, cooking and needwork. This makes you want to take up your knitting needs or needles to do something creative. So the book not only is interesting but it stirs the juices in you to be creative - so that makes it more enjoyable in two ways.

    charming amateur sleuth cozy

A year has passed since Molly Pink¿s husband died from a heart attack and she is beginning to come out of her grief as her life normalizes. Her late spouse co-owned a public relations firm with partner Ellen Sheridan, who forced the widow to sell her half of the business to her.. Even though Molly is poorer, she is happier as she enjoys working as community relations and events coordinator for Shedd & Royal Books and More. --- Ellen and her friends are crocheting an afghan at the bookstore for a charity event. One day when she departs she leaves her needles behind. Molly goes to Ellen¿s home to give her back her needles, but finds her nemesis dead. Detective Heather Gilmore leads the homicide investigation. She hates Molly because she is attracted to a peer who loves the widow. By the tone and questions Heather asks Molly and her friends, the bookstore employee knows the detective is out to get her and has circumstantial evidence to prove motive, method, and opportunity. Molly with the encouragement and help of her best friend investigates knowing the real culprit is out there. Although she finds a more likely suspect, Molly feels manipulated as if she has been sent down a false path to draw wrong conclusions she continues her inquiries not understanding the right path leads to murder. --- HOOKED ON MURDER hooks the reader from the onset with likable characters especially the lead protagonists who does not know when to quit. This charming amateur sleuth cozy contains parallel investigations with the lead cop concentrating on the heroine who focuses on the culprit. Readers will admire the feisty caring Molly, who has moved on with her life, which just like her inquiry, one stitch at a time. --- Harriet Klausner

A Few knots but looking for more in the future

Molly Pink is a widow trying to put her life back together after her husband's unexpected death. She's got a job as an event coordinator for a local bookstore. The bookstore is sponsoring an auction of a hand crocheted afghan when disaster strikes - the leader of the Tarzana Hookers (who are making the afghan) is found dead in her home by Molly. Before she can call for help., the [police arrive and find her with the body. Fortunately, Molly's boyfriend, (a police detective) is able to convince the officer in charge that Molly is not involved. However, Detective Heather Gilmore has the hots for Greenberg so she places Molly at the too of her suspects list.

With a Ellen dead, the Hookers are runny short of crocheters so Molly and her friend Dinah volunteer to help even though they are only beginning crocheters. As they learn more and more about the members of the group, Molly and Dinah work to figure out who killed Ellen.

The book lack a bit in the character development area and some of the clues were a bit vague, but overall it was an enjoyable cozy mystery. I'm hoping that the next in the series will improve.

    Holds your interest!

This is the first story that I've chosen by Betty Hechtman and, although I've only gotten into about a third of the story, "Hooked On Murder" is holding my interest. I enjoy mysteries, especially books that have continuing characters, and I'm hoping that her stories follow in that vein. Her main character seems to have a penchant for getting into tight spots, and getting her out of them is proving to be quite interesting.

Fun read, if you get past the errors.

I can't get beyond the errors/typos. I don't know whether that's a NOOK thing or publishing problem. If that doesn't bother you, it will be a fun read. At any rate, as it's #1 in the series, and I do like crochet, I've rated it a 3 and will pick up the next effort.
