Hooking up is cool, but holding out can be even better.

Many women don't feel great about hooking up before they're really ready, but they're not sure how to go about holding out and still keep the guy interested. Most books that recommend holding out prescribe tired old retro games--not picking up the phone or pretending to have a date already. This straight-talking guide is new, different and smart. You can have a great time with men, hold plenty of power and just be yourself!

Hooking Up or Holding Out shows you how to:

  • Decide when the time is right and when it's just impulse sex
  • Settle for nothing less than the very best sex life
  • Hold off unwanted advances and play the field
  • Make friends with lots of men and go on plenty of great dates
  • Create a romance that's artful and full of passion
  • Hook up with truly great men
  • Have more fun in love than ever before

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Interestingly, these two books have more in common than one would think by reading the titles. Both acknowledge that great sex is sought by both genders, but Callan (writing, Educational Ctr. for the Arts, New Haven, CT; Just Too Cool) points out that women want to be adored, wooed, listened to, understood, and artfully courted first. To get men to do this, she writes, women need to put a little gamesmanship, flirtation, battle, excitement, and passion back into relationships. She advises women to make sure they have plenty of male friends, shun junk-food sex, and get what they want from men. On the other hand, professional pick-up coach von Markovik, a.k.a. Mystery, provides a guide to maximizing the courtship process and getting a woman into bed within seven hours. The author claims to have figured out through his observation of social dynamics in clubs how men can overcome the guard women put up to avoid being hit on. He shares his insights, advising the "average frustrated chump" on using warm-up approaches, building a feeling of connection, and seeing women through last-minute resistance. Von Markovik knows what he's talking about, but his acronyms and codes distract from his message. Will that prevent young males from checking it out? Probably not. Enlightening and empowering, if not your mother's dating book, Hooking Up is highly recommended; Mystery Method is recommended with reservations. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Introduction: Fasten Your Seat Belt, Baby
Admit it. You love that dark look in a man's eyes when he's just a little bit frustrated. He wants you badly and he'll do anything to get you. You love the way he pours on the sweet talk, his tongue practically hanging out of his mouth as he buys you another drink and admires your eyes, your mouth, your cleavage. You love the way he promises you the moon. You love the little tricks he plays to get closer-accidentally on purpose rubbing his arm against your arm. You relish the moment he throws caution to the wind, and despite all the risks, he goes for broke and leans over and kisses you full on the mouth, without hesitation, without permission, completely aware that he may get a hard slap across the face. But, he does it anyway, because you've driven him crazy.
Let's face it. Men love the chase. They love beating out the competition. They're completely goal driven, and more than anything else in the world, they're driven by the goal of sex. No, they're not driven by the desire to obtain money or fame or power. They're not driven by a need to be admired and appreciated for their good deeds and altruism. No, they're driven by their need for sex. They only want money and fame and power and adoration because they think it'll help them get more sex!
