Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Fly Guy with a football helmet and football should give potential readers a clue as to what this story might be about. Buzz has a pet fly, and one day, Fly Guy went with him to play football. The coach said they need another player for the upcoming game, and Buzz volunteers his friend. The coach and team have a laugh, and Fly Guy fails the test—he cannot kick, catch a pass, or tackle a player. Prior to the game, Fly Guy and Buzz practice—they come up with a secret play, and they practice a touchdown dance. The game starts, and the other team is doing quite well. Fly Guy is worried. With one second left, the other team is ahead, and it looks like they are prepared to score again. Fly Guy enters the game to replace an injured player, and he and Buzz execute their secret play which leads to…Well, you will just have to read the story to find out how the game ends. The amusing tale about this unlikely duo, which may make readers fly out to pick up the others. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

It's football season, and Buzz's team, the Go-Getters, needs one more player. Fly Guy, Buzz's pet fly, tries out but cannot kick the ball, catch a pass, or tackle. The coach fills the spot and, at the big game, the Go-Getters score; then their opponents score-again and again. With only one second left and the new player hurt, Fly Guy is sent onto the field. He and Buzz put their secret plan into action, which involves the nose of the opposing team's quarterback. The pencil and watercolor cartoon illustrations feature exaggerated eyes and great expressions. This easy reader is chock-full of humor.-Linda Staskus, Parma Regional Library, OH

Great for a 6 year old!

My 1st grade son loves the Fly Guy books, and especially loves this football story. He can read most of it by himself. Definitely recommend!

We have all the "Fly Guy" books and we just love them all. They are perfect for a kid who's just starting to read all the way up to reading for fun. These books are fun with a cute story line and a good meaning behind it all <acceptance>. I will deff recommend to any parent and child.

Great Fun for Early Readers / Boys

The Fly Guy books are great fun for beginning readers -- especially boys. The series is written as chapter books that early readers can decipher themselves. My son loves the illustrations and thinks the stories are funny. I'm finding that the combination of those two elements holds his interest like few other books right now.

I also really appreciate that the humor in this series is more slap-stick than a lot of the other chapter books created for this age group. Too often I find that the "humor" in these books is created by name-calling and/or characters picking on each other. Sure, name-calling happens in life, but I don't like to promote it in what we read at home.

He's almost 7 and is reading and re-reading the Fly Guy books -- to us and to himself. That, to me, is just about the best recommendation you can give a children's book.
